What Should I Do My Research Paper On?

Posted

So for my senior year we have to write this big 35 page paper on something we strongly believe and analyze why we disagree with the other side. I'm really having trouble deciding what I want to write mine on, and I need to email in my decision by Monday. Here are my ideas for right now:

  • Write about my anti-theist beliefs and research religion deeper so that I can explain why I think it's wrong
  • Write about my pro-choice beliefs and research the anti-choice arguments deeper so I can explain
  • Write about my feminist beliefs and research anti-feminist arguments so I can explain

I know these are all hot issues and it's supposed to be something personal to you that you strongly believe, which is why I chose these. Obviously I've already done research on all three, which is why it's very hard to choose. I don't want to hear any personal opinions, I just want a suggestion on which one I should do. At the moment I'm thinking maybe not the feminist one? It would be fun but it's a very broad topic. Idk so yeah suggestions please?

Well, let me rephrase. I already have all of the necessary information to do any of these because I'm passionate about the issues I listed, but my research is mostly going to consist of WHY other people think these things and their reasoning. Like, you said religion, so I'd research why people want to believe in religion and if it's because they're raised into it or it's a choice, and why there are so many schisms within religions, etc. I don't really need to research the other side's beliefs, etc. because that's info I already have.

edit: Actually that got me thinking, do y'all think religion in general is too broad of a topic and I should focus specifically on one religion? Like instead of "why I think all religions are bad", something like "why I think Christianity is bad", etc so that it's more focused?

Yeah; I'd go with the second one.

Lol I go to private school for gifted students so it's not for a class, it's just something we have to do to graduate. It's not as bad as it sounds! When you're passionate about something it's not hard to ramble on for 35 pages. xD

Hey, if those three don't cut out for ya, you could always go for a movie you feel passionate/hate.

I suggest that you take into consideration the person who is grading your paper. I wouldn't choose the first option just because your teacher might get offended depending on what they believe and might lower the grade unconsciously. Personally I would like to see the third option done if you have a male teacher so that the guilt and sympathetic feel of the paper packs more of a punch, but the paper would still do well on a female teacher if you made it more empowering. The safest option is easily the second one and it would probably be the easiest to write about. I would also consider that its a 35 page paper. Your teacher probably will not read it all.

All of those are great topics, but since you think the feminist one may be too broad I'd go with the second one. It'll be easy to back up your point with research and statistics

If you wanted to do the feminist or religion one, definitely narrow it down a bit, that way you can write around a specific thesis

The second one and I wish you the best of luck with this paper and I hope it hits home with the reader :D

Okay, thank you guys for the recommendations! I'm definitely gonna go with the second one.

Well yeah, there's a lot of different religions and they offer different perspectives and I don't really believe you can truly understand a religion with a few wiki articles and a handful of days. I think a focused one might be easier to research and present your argument against. But then again people might go all "oh why are you hating on my religion only?"I'd probably advise the second one

...I don't think we would get along very well with topics like those. I'm sure you'll do well no matter what you pick. You seem like someone who can convey her thoughts very well while expressing the effort you put into the project and your teacher will appreciate that.

How about researching why genetically modified foods are bad for everyone's health and hdsvjk'g chr';';bljksg;htucgolkv;'/bdxfzf ERROR USERFILE NOT FOUND.

We here at Monsanto Company would like to reassure our customers that our genetically enhanced Roundup ready products meet safe and strict FDA guidelines and are thoroughly tested for quality and safety. Any correlations with increased rates of cancer, birth defects, and other general health problems are purely coincidental and scientists who say otherwise are using faulty research methods. Please also note that sudden deaths of scientists and other advocates of anti-GMO products are again, purely coincidental. Our products are tested by our own scientists for stringent quality control and the results are published to the FDA for verification.

Thank you for allowing Monsanto to fulfill our commitment of sustainable agriculture.

Number 2 would seem okay. It does sound easier than the other ones do :P

man I firetrucking hate Monsanto and what you wrote made me smile xD

I'd go with the second choice because, although Religion is personal, it leads to topics about other religions as well and has a cyclic overview.

The second choice is wise because you have more data, statistics, etc. to work with and valid arguments, instead of arguments with the first topic where it may have holier-than-thou arguments against different parties and it would end up being invalid since that is another person's personal approach.

The second choice is a great topic, but try to stick with your approach and stay neutral when addressing the topic and try to make it have a personal touch to it; don't force your reader to agree with one side over the other; it's about you and how it affects your views and how it impacted you as an individual and your perspective on things. :) Hope you do well on it Lexi!
