Square Enix will reveal a new RPG for console that isn’t a remake sometime next month, company president Yosuke Matsuda told the latest issue of Famitsu.

“Actually, right now, we’re working on a new RPG specifically for consoles and it isn’t a remake,” Matsuda told Famitsu. “We’ll start talking about it more in December and go from there.”

Both Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards, which promises game-related world premieres, and Sony’s PlayStation Experience, which promises new game announcements, are being held in early December, which could be the venue for this new title reveal.

Matsuda continued, “Just so we’re clear, we also still have a lot of titles in the pipeline for not just consoles, but also smartphones and PCs, and this includes games that our overseas studios are working on. I can’t talk about what platform those other titles are going to be on yet, whether they’ll be on console or mobile, but I believe we should have a wide variety of games to announce after the new year arrives.

“These are projects that began after I assumed the role of president at Square Enix. We’re going to have a lot to show for both Japan and overseas markets.”

Because they have before. Back in '98 they announced FFIX, X and XI at once. In 2006 they announced FFXIII, Versus XIII and Agito XIII.

 

They have 3 or 4 teams working on new FF games for PS4 & Xbox One.

Yeah but I doubt people had been waiting for either 1 of those for 8 years. They have multiple teams yes, but uninformed people don't know that. Which will make them only more angry about it.

Secret of Mana is available on the Wii's Virtual Console. It's annoying that it hasn't been released on the Wii U's outside of Japan but hopefully they at least consider it. Such an awesome game.

Kinda doubt it when I see people whine and yell at Square that they should focus on XV instead of making other stuff like Type-0 HD, the KH remixes, heck even the FFVII bike thingy.

Funny thing is the FFXV team isn't doing that much for Type-0 HD, Hexadrive is doing most of the work.

I'd expect a Mana game on 3DS at some point. There's one coming to Vita. Lol. But this topic isn't about a handheld game.

Dragon Quest XI was hinted at recently... I'm hoping it'll be that. If it's not, I highly doubt I'll care about it.

You can get Secret of Mana through the Wii menu's virtual console, if you have a Classic Controller. That's how I play it.

Yeah, I can't see them developing a Chrono Trigger game for PS4.
