Story Overview

 

2015, the modern day. Your lives were everything you thought them to be just yesterday. Dreams, aspirations, work, friends. The day-in-day-out routine of modern life. There were things to be counted on every morning you woke up; the place you lived, the people you knew, the person you were. Today that all changed. You didn't wake up in your home, nor your town, nor your country. You woke up in The City, and today your life changed.

 

Skyscrapers dot the landscape in various sizes and shapes, and the crisscross of roads is reminiscent of most of the huge metropolises of the world, but there is something different about The City from any urban area you've ever seen; it's pure white, from the buildings to the roads to the parks, and it's entirely empty. Only a select handful of people appeared in The City this morning, but beyond that there is not a soul in sight. The shops are empty, the buildings abandoned, and the streets eerily quiet. There is however, a dark foreboding in the air, as if  something darker and more malevolent lurks just beneath the chalky pavement; waiting.

 

But you arrival here changed not only your surroundings, but you as well. The City is not simply a stagnant husk, for you have the ability to change it. You have been given, or discovered within yourself, an Ability of Creation. In small ways at first, and soon in greater amounts, you can change The City. Perhaps you have the power to morph bits of building and road into weapons, maybe you can change the streets into a vehicle to move around in, possibly you can form keys and badges to unlock hidden areas. Each Ability of Creation will differ and match the person from whom it derives. And not only can you create from the foundation of the city itself, but as you do, you change its very fabric. Where you build colors spring and spread to nearby buildings and sidewalks. And as you complete certain strange challenges spread around the various districts the effects of your actions bring even more life to the white empty world. Bit by bit you can begin to bring The City to life.

 

And as you all wake you receive a strange message that seems to resound from within your mind itself. It is a woman's voice, but there is an odd element about it you can't seem to pinpoint. Something... wrong you sense as her voice seems to whisper in your ear.

 

"Welcome to this place. The City. You have many questions I am sure, and I am sorry to leave you in such a state of mystery, but some things must be discovered with one's own eyes, and this City holds many truths you must discover. You have gained powers unlike any human has ever known; the ability to shift the very foundation of your reality and build anew from it. You must use this power to bring life to this blank metropolis, district by district, overcoming obstacles and coming to understand many harsh realities. I shall be your guide through this place. My name is Q, and I will show you the way.

 

Welcome to The City."

 

Whatever the reason you are in The City, you have the tools and desire to discover it, and oppose the forces that may seek to destroy you. And you shall have people to fight alongside - and possibly against- as well, and together you may discover the nature of The City, your powers, and the reason you were sent here in the first place.

 

Structure Overview

Skyline is an open-world roleplay about creation, discover, and companionship. Players will be brought into The City in various groups, and from there can consult a world map (which will be provided and constantly updated in the RP thread) and travel to different districts to overcome challenges there to bring The City to life and discover the truth about both the place itself and about themselves. All throughout several mysterious characters may come into play, slowly unraveling the truth as they interact with the players. Players are free to move to various districts in their groups and contest the various challenges at each area to further the story. They can also switch between groups if two happen to come in contact. Overall, as the City will come to life, the story will come to light.

 

Rules

 

-No over-powered abilities; keep your powers reasonable and in check. They can grows as you all get more powerful, but never so much that you can effortlessly overcome another player.

 

-No taking control of other players

 

-No explicit sexual content. Romance is totally fine.

 

-One character per-player (The point of this rule is to force a player to focus on the actions of a single character so all the characters have a lot of relevance)

 

-Only five posts per-person between every updating post I make (basically any time I post as an NPC or detail a challenge) This is just to make sure we don't have rampant over-posting.

 

-Keep out-of-character chat generally relegated to the Signup/Discussion thread to keep the RP thread mostly on-point.

This Arc was done better in Sword Art Online!

Sora we assumed just had something go wrong when she was being transferred into the City. A glitch that caused her fox girl costume to become actually part of her body.

 

As for that traitor twist, that was excellently done, and I was not anticipating it. Kudos to KH45 and MDS for that one.

 

In all honesty though: Holy shit.

Meanwhile Shade is Elsa.     

Yes.....Yuki is an Ai....It is unkown what his actual purpose was to be created or why he started to go against the other S3s.

Could the Doctor or Q hold the answers? Would he soon go against the real warriors and join his kind?...

 

 

Could he be the last S3 to defeat!?

 

So many questions.....Left unknown.....Yuki was Created....But his mind is not controlled.

Well, that was interesting.

Nah, Yuki's too nice to turn against his group. Even if we are forced to fight him to fully activate the city, I doubt he'd fight to kill any of us.

Yeah, Sora has amnesia due to a glitch (or was it? Yes, yes it was a glitch, because in his moment of stupidity he forgot to sort out a reason for that to be a design choice when she was brought in).

 

She as an AI would have been a tragic plot twist actually...

The City is not a weapon. It's a tool, a database run by AI that are capable of using all of the information in the world to find solutions to the world's problems. Of course, like anything, it could be dangerous in the wrong hands, but the potential benefits far outweigh that drawback.

But then comes the military, always eager for advancements in machines of war, and this City, would undoubtely become a weapon at their hands, benefits sure, crazy S3s and humans being thrown in it not counting.

 

The city is nowhere near operatonal states imo, theres the S3s conflict + the marauder invasion + the "Corruption" as MDs put it + some really weird shit in the city.

 

If you ask me what we should to with the city IF it becomes fully functional either with Q or the Doctor, I say shut it down permanently, delete all data, and start anew with knowledge of what mistakes were made to make it the shithole it is now and make something good out of it. Cuz i feel even if we manage to bring it back to operational states that'l be just the beginning of our worries.

We the humans inserted into the City are solving the problem of the S3s, the marauders are a computer virus that also want to end the S3s that can likely be removed by the people who put them in in the first place. The corruption only affects humans, so once all of us get out it'll be fine. We are in there to make it fully functional. Right now of course it isn't functional, but after we're done with it, there won't be anymore problems preventing it from being completely operational.As for the military coming in, the purpose of the Coty is to completely end any logical reason for war.Territory? Expanded space travel.Resources? New ways to be more efficient.Food? Safe Genetic modification of crops can end that.Economy? New planned out economic strategies.The City can do it all, we just need to make it work. Deleting it would be a waste of time that this planet does not have.

Every era of peace is temporary, even if we managed to make it work and completely ruin all reasons to wage war, doesn't mean it would end, there'd certainly be war, such thing is an inevitable part of human history that cannot be changed, when we are at odds, we war it out, its how its always been, even when it was entirely unecessary to wage a war.

 

And heck, I think space travel would cause more problems than solving, while it would allow the creation of colonies, there's the chance of meeting alien life, which is a hit or miss wheter they'd be friendly or not. Imma quote Mass effect lore on this. Humans expand beyond earth, and they find the turians, what happens? war, on both sides, both highly militaristic, so much they have to make a truce, and be at odds with each other for years to come.

 

Then comes the krogan wars, and the genophage made by Salarians and yadda yadda yadda.

 

War won't change, war never changes, if anything, it'l just expand the reasons why war happens, the city can help, thats obvious, but war is inevitable, regardless of reason for war or not.

 

Expanded space travel sounds nice, but as I quoted Mass effect, war can happen.

 

Resources is a given, the city will benefit the world, but not entirely, if meant by minerals like gold and silver, those are limited supply only, over time, they'l run dry, and we'l have to wait millions of years for more unless we can find a way engineer and create more, much like artificial diamonds, so areas would duke it out for resources when push comes to shove, even with the globalization of the planet, doubt there'd be enough resources for every area in the world.

 

Food is a given, nothing to say about it, as long as its shared and not overly expensive to poorer countries.

 

Economy, to this day, several countries profited from small wars for money, I won't go into detail about them, but sometimes wars are waged simply for the profit, this was shown into great detail in MGS4 and god damn can it be related to the real world, small proxy wars in different parts of the globe, hastens and increases the manufacturing of weapons which are exported and imported alike, leading to profit for the country's economy, or rather "world's economy".

 

So a new economic strategy would be nice, would be very nice in fact.

Well besides the in-depth discussion about how the idea could possibly fix the world problems and such i wanted to add that Joe won't be able to post because his computer broke and typing on the ps4 is too much of a pain.
