Is it possible to ask for someone's number as a friend?

Posted

So at work, there's this person that's super chill and cool and nice, and we share a lot of the same interests (mostly music and game-wise.) Sadly he's in a different department than I am, so i don't get to talk with him often (and when I do, it's just a "hi/bye" thing. Unless I need help with something and he happens to be there.) Because I don't get to see him often, I'd like to ask for his contact info or something just so we can talk and become friends? But I'm afraid he'll think I'm flirting with him and be creeped out or something.

I already have a bae; I'm not interested in this guy romantically, and I know he isn't either but as I said I think if we were in like, highschool or something together, he'd probably be in my circle of friends, y'know?

Part of me says I should just be clear. That I should say, "hey can I ask for your number as a friend? Like totally and completely just as a friend." But idk how guys think so I think getting answers from some of the guys on this forum would help me out? >.< I don't want to be creepy....

this is so tough. It's hard asking stuff like this to someone of the opposite gender without people thinking you're flirting or some shit e_e

If you're a girl and hes a guy the last thing he would think is that you're creepy even if you didn't have a boyfriend. Like, seriously, that's not how guys think.

Guys don't find that creepy typically, especially from a girl. Don't think too much of it, really. I've been in similar situations. Be honest, and blunt and it, 99% of the time will work in your favor. Good luck!

If he's super chill, like me, all ya gotta ask is something like "Mind if I get your number?" Bam!

even if you do ask for it in a nonchalant way there will be that one millisecond where it may sound like a flirt. but only a millisecond. maybe bring up your bae casually first. otherwise he may see the question like "Hey baby i want your number" then BAM! 2 scoops of rasins. game over.

Naaah, guys ain't like that even if it's flirtatious.Opens doors either way.

Just ask the number, most guys don't really think you're flirting with them just by asking a cellphone number! :D

I would try to get his facebook or any other social media thingy instead. Just my opinion. I am a classic over-thinker though,

yeah i would get his facebook instead

Nope entirely impossible. Physically impossible.

lol, no it'd probably be fine, even just asking him straight out for it. But if you aren't comfortable doing that, find a decent reason/excuse, and there you go! Number received, and no awkwardness at all, though I doubt there would be any anyway.

I literally came here to post this

It had to be said

I don't think it's strange at all. All of my coworkers and I exchanged numbers and were really good friends. It doesn't sound creepy at all. I wouldn't even make a big deal out of it, but just say you'd like to chat outside of work or something.

Just take his number and avoid adding the word "baby" in your sentences .

Not sure who said this but if a girl asks the number to a guy, the guy will IMMEDIATELY think you are flirting. There is no doubt about that, it's just how us guys think.

But don't worry, he will soon realize that you are, in fact, not flirting at all. Just ask his number and tell him that you wanna keep in touch with him like that.
