IX. It's fairly straightforward, unlike VII or VIII. Simpler is almost always better.

it's not simpler, really, just really REALLY well executed. It's still loaded to the brim with twists and such

Exactly the same, FFX. FFVII and FFIV The After Years come close second and third respectively.

Thats a very hard question for me to answer. I thoroughly and equally enjoyed FF3-FF10.

I felt that both FF1 and FF2 needed more meat to flesh out its characters and story.

I haven't done the the games from FF 11 onwards

Final Fantasy X for me. Absolutely love the game and everything about it. 

VI is my favorite game in the series in every aspect possible. IV and Crisis Core would follow, in terms of this particular question.

I've only played a few of the numbered titles in the series, but out of the ones I've played, I have to say that IV is my all time favorite!  The story of Cecil and friends is one that I absolutely love, and it's so well developed, and it's a challenging game!  My favorite characters have to be Kain Highwind and Golbez!  Gahh, Final Fantasy IV is just the best!

 

I also love the Dissidia series, they are very fun games with an intriguing storyline!

Final Fantasy IX is my all time, ultimate choice mate. The character diversity, the progression of the story; it goes from light to heavy steadily and it's amazing in my opinion
