My dad was saying to me that I should grow out of playing video games and watching some of my superhero obsessions. I know that I do watch them and play video games a lot but its hard to decide if I am ready to give it all up yet or not so I was hoping you guys could give me your opinion. (I'm 16 by the way)

I'm 20 and I will play video games and watch "childish" movies forever.

Do what your heart desires to do.

There isn't a point in your life when you're "ready" to give such things up.

Do what you desire to do, you can be 30, 40, 50 or older and still love Video Games and Superheroes.

Don't listen to your dad. Keep playing Video Games and loving Superheroes. It's a healthy interest. :)

Don't listen to your dad. He doesn't have any control over your own interests. You do whatever you want, when you want, cause' you want to. :)

These aren't things you can just grow out of (unless of course you actually do, which is very rare), especially when it's just something your dad tells you is childish. Let me tell ya something: None of it is childish. Superhero movies are some of the biggest movies out now, and that sure isn't just from the under 18 crowd. As for video games, they're for everyone. I've never understood the notion that video games are just for kids. Just looking at ratings and having common sense will tell you that.

Don't out grown something you love. If you want to play video games and watch super hero movies thing keep on playing video games and watching super hero movies. My friends and I are in collage and we all play video games and watch super hero movies. There's nothing wrong with that. Never give up on something you love because you might regret it one day.

I'm a grown 25 year old woman that plays video games, watches anime, watch kid shows, Disney movies, and I don't give a damn! (Sorry for the curse word...)

My mom knows this and my dad too!

I know I'm an adult, and I guess to some people I should play Rated M games and Rated AO games, instead of Rated E E10+ games. But here is the thing. I don't play Rated M games, because it freaks me out. I'm not comfortable playing them. That goes with Rated R films. I'm not comfortable of what is shown in them.

Only thing I can say is, you are NEVER too old to play video games. I played video games when I was your age. And besides. There ARE adult games out there as well as teens, kids, and early childhood.

Don't give up on anything unless you don't like it.

Do what you want! Sure, you can take some opinions from others, but if someone is telling you to stop for such a bad reason, (cuz you can never be too old for video games) don't listen to them. Listen to your heart, your mind, and God, for all of them will give you your answer. You just gotta listen closely!

This goes for other hobbies, too! Whether it be drawing, or playing a sport, anything, you make YOUR decisions, not others.

Pretend you agree with him, move out of the house years later when you get the chance, and go back to liking what you like in peace. Or, just be more discreet in showing how much you like what you like so your dad will have less to make fun of.

As many on here have said, don't let anything like that get to you. Video games are fun, superheroes are exciting and comic books are great to read! You do whatever you want and whatever makes you happy. Don't let stuff like someone else's opinion change that. You are who you are and that is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

I think it's fine if you keep playing games. I'm 21s and still playing some games. As long as you don't forget about your responsibility, it's very okay.

You should never stop playing games .

My solution to this is to buy all of your video games yourself, and don't ask your dad for anything he thinks is childish, cos when push comes to shove, and he wants to try and force you to grow up, just tell him that it's YOUR stuff that you got yourself. Then he really can't do much about it

I will have to go with the majority here and say not to give up your interests.  I have always loved video games, Disney, and writing, and eventually I thought I would outgrow all of these things when I became an "adult."  Well, almost six years into my adulthood I still find that I still love the same things that I always have, but there's nothing wrong with it.  You'll probably find as you get older that your interests shift slightly, in that you'll enjoy more things in addition to what you used to like and maybe even lose interest in some things that you used to enjoy, but they seldom make a complete 360.  I don't see you having to give up video games and superheroes to grow up; that is just an ignorant statement for your dad to make.  Lots of adults these days enjoy such things, so don't worry about it!  There's adults out there who think you must be mature and boring to all belief in order to be an adult, but that's just not the way it works at all.  My grandpa used to say that they day you're too old to laugh you're too old to live, or something like that.  In other words, have fun and do what you love.  The maturity will come out of the responsibilities you have and the decisions that you make in your life.

Your dad obviously has no idea what he is talking about since there are plenty of grown men that like superheros and video games.  Don't listen to him.
