What's it like to be a MODERATOR? (Moderators only)

Posted

So, moderators, what is it like being a moderator? What do you usually do as one? How did you become a moderator?

(Please, nobody else post on here other than me and the moderators. I want to know them a little more than I do now. Don't take it the wrong way. Thank you.)

I don't know since I've never been part of the team, but every now and then, our awesome Moderator Team Lider makes this kind of test where she pm you some situations and you have to answer how would you react to them as a moderator. At least, the last time was like that.

Every now and then we have to ban some spammers, but overall it's a nice experience :)

Sure, there's some sour cases here and there, and you have to know how to deal with each situation, but we're a pretty united team xD

And about how I became a Moderator...

I first started off as a Sectional Moderator, which is the same thing as a Moderator, although we were stricted down to one section only. I took care of Forum Games, and it was a very nice place to start: not much fuss going on, and everyone got along pretty well :)

After a while, all Sectional Moderators were promoted to Moderators, and that's where I am right now xD

I bet that Banhammer is pretty heavy. xD

Unless it works like Thors Hammer, where only the Mods can wield it effectively. xP

....I'd like to be a mod. X3 I'd be good at it.

It sucked. :P

It's a pretty fun experience, I'm glad I've been able to do it for as long as I have.

What do we do? Well usually respond to reports, make sure everyone's following the rules, monitor the forums, and just make sure it's an overall nice, friendly place for everyone. Like Weed said, there may be some situations that are trickier to deal with than others, but you just have to know how to handle each case. And if we're ever unsure, well we have our fellow teammates to help us out.

As for how I joined up, I applied when DC was recruiting Sectional Moderators as well.  I was in charge of one of the Kingdom Hearts sections, General & Future Titles--or as it's called now General & Other Titles. The great thing about being a sec mod for the KH sections was, we weren't only limited to one section, rather the entire Kingdom Hearts series board, even though we still had our own designated sections to keep track of. It was a nice place to start out, occasional incidents here and there, but overall an interesting and fun section to take care of. :) Like Weed said already, we aren't designated one section to moderate anymore, we moved on to being able to moderate across all forums.

Side note, I really miss our sectional moderator blue color. :P

I've never been a mod, but I imagine that it would feel a lot like having to manage a daycare for 24 hours each day and almost all the toddlers are trying to kill each other. Needless to say, it isn't the easiest of jobs. :P

I bet it's great, but there's a few problems to deal as mod, as removing inappropriate topics or bot threads.

News Team and Social Media Team is better than Moderators, totally. :P

I like being a mod bc we can help contribute to such a great site and community and make this place a friendly forum to enjoy and visit. Yes we have to deal with drama and some unruly members once in awhile but most members are great and entertaining and make it all worth it.
