September 11, 201510 yr I like both equally, personally, since they both compliment a game and each other if used well and are good.
September 11, 201510 yr Scenario/Story for me. Especially for RPG games. However if I don't like the gameplay that much like for example Chain of Memories or FFXIII then it can be a chore to play through the game just for the story. In other games like God of War I prefer it for it's gameplay. And in games like Metal Gear Solid then I like both.
September 11, 201510 yr Tales of Xillia had good gameplay, Super Mario had good gameplay, pretty much all the games that are good have great gameplay, not just story, so Gameplay is all the more significant to a game. (See, people would argue if I did not add this part with parentheses because they would assume I am saying this for everyone, but this is just my opinion.)
September 11, 201510 yr If the game is boring to play, then I don't care how good the story is, I'm done. My opinion is that if I want an amazing story, I'll go watch a movie or something. Pretty much the reason why I can't play games like FF13 even though the story is great. Doesn't help that I'm impatient as well. Using the example of FF13, the game takes too long to actually be somewhat fun to play.P.S I don't dislike FF13, it just didn't feel like I was playing a video game.
September 11, 201510 yr I definitely feel like both are an important factor. A good story won't matter of the gameplay is crap. And a crap story, in MOST cases, will turn me off even if the gameplay is superb unless I just wanted gameplay. With JRPGs, both story and gameplay must be good. No exceptions. Peace!
September 11, 201510 yr Scenario, but I only typically only get critical of a scenario if it is an RPG. When it comes to other genres, I don't really care as much because stories outside of RPGs don't tend to stray too far from their roots, so those are typically all based on gameplay for me.
September 11, 201510 yr Scenerio, hands down. Games offer an extended and interactive story medium that can't be found in other genres like movies(far to short) and books(no visuals and fighting is way to simplistic. I mean, in what other medium could you experience a full lengthed ventus vs vanitus fight, with all its glory and length, without it being dull and repetitive? By playing it ofcourse!
September 11, 201510 yr I try to stay equal between scenario, art, and gameplay with 33% of each, but I'd give the remaining 1% to scenario. I'm a story kind of person being in to films, books, other things along side those of thing.
September 11, 201510 yr For me it's gameplay since that interactivity is what makes video games such a unique form of entertainment. A story can be good but if I have to deal with terrible gameplay then it's going to ruin the experience. Meanwhile I think it's easier to stomach a bad story so long as the gameplay is at least enjoyable. I say the levels of importance should be: 1. Gameplay 2. Story 3. Graphics
September 11, 201510 yr well they are 'GAMES' of course. However there are certain circumstances you have to think about. If i find the gameplay is boring then I won't play it because i'll just be bored the whole time. If the gameplay is anything better than the definition of 'OKAY' but the story keeps me interested then I'll continue to see what happens. If the story is anything worse than 'OKAY' but the gameplay is fun then i'll keep playing the game. Most games let you skip the cutscenes anyway (Curse you kh1 and FF10). Devs should focus on the GAMEPLAY rather than crafting an amazing story, but there is a pinnacle where the gameplay is so good it's irrelevant how bad the story is. The same can't be said for the other way around because it's a GAME. A game can still be perfect with a bad story so long as the gameplay is the work of Angels. A good story is very important, but if the gameplay is amazing then it doesn't matter too much.
September 11, 201510 yr Scenario > Gameplay Both are equally important as they benefit each other so much.
September 11, 201510 yr Both. For example, the gameplay is why i enjoy kingdom hearts that much, but the story is so awesome , that i love it even more. Didn't happen with ff7 though. Loved the story, but not the gameplay.
September 11, 201510 yr Need that story even if the gameplay is amazing if the story isn't that great I might not really like the game that much. But then again there are those kinds of games that relay more so on gameplay then story, it just depends on the game series or something I guess
September 11, 201510 yr If the story's awful, but the game is still fun, I will keep playing that game. If the story's amazing, but the gameplay is awful, I will watch the cutscenes online or watch someone else play it. So I guess I think gameplay's more important.
September 12, 201510 yr While both aspects are good for a video game to be successful, I find that I'm attracted to the story. If a game has an amazing story, then I'll play it, even if the gameplay turns out to be a bit iffy! As long as there's a good story, you can count me there! But obviously, I also like good gameplay to go along with a good story, ya know?
September 12, 201510 yr I've been playing lots of story heavy games for the passed few years so instead I've been playing games with good gameplay. I really can't chose, I just wish there would be more games that did both. Most games with good stories have absolutely no replayability because the gameplay isn't that interesting that you want to play through it again. Whereas with gameplay oriented games, I could play them forever.
Scenario/story or gameplay?
Scenario for me.
