Hi everyone!  I wanted to ask a few questions about what is known thus far about Kingdom Hearts 3's development.  I was having a discussion in a shoutbox on another site with someone and they told me a few things I did not previously know or was mistaken about:

 

• Kingdom Hearts 3 has only been in development since 2012
• The Osaka team has been developing it the whole time since the release of KH: 3D
• Only certain mechanics from 3D were being explored/looked at for implementation in KH3 prior to 2012
• Osaka is the main team working on KH3 (I thought there was another "main team" working on the title before Osaka)

I do my best to follow updates and news releases for anything Kingdom Hearts, so I apologize if these facts have been long known by the community.  I just thought that KH3 had been worked on since at least 2010.  Any clarification on the validity of the above points would be greatly appreciated. 

 

P.S.  Are there any hints from Nomura and co. as to exactly when KH 2.8 HD Final Chapter Prologue will release in 2016?

I think they said that it will release in 2016. They didn't give any more info.

• I've heard that the development of KH3 actually started in 2010. However, if I recall correctly (so anyone please correct me if I'm wrong), the development from that year was simply ideas and discussions and no animating of character models or gameplay.
• Refer to above point.
• Not sure about that one.
• Osaka is currently the only team working on KH3. Once FFXV is done, the team developing FFXV (forgot the name), will join the Osaka team and double the development speed/rate for KH3.

We don't know when exactly when 2.8 will release in 2016. The only information that I can almost call as hints would be the facts that 0.2 will only take the length of one KH world and that X Back Cover is a movie of cutscenes. With these in mind, it is possible to speculate when it comes out. If it's a worldwide release (#DontLetTheDreamDrop), I speculate it to release some time around late Summer or early Autumn. If (and I hope not) it is released first in Japan and released later in the West, I speculate that it would release around mid/late Summer in Japan, while in the West, it would release around late Summer or early/mid Autumn.

Kingdom Hearts 3 has been in development since 2010, Nomura said that in the interview when they first announced Kingdom Hearts 3 in 2013 at E3, The Osaka team is developing it but I don't know if those other facts are right, and there is a main team but they are working on Final Fantasy XV.  Other then the fact that it will be released in 2016 there hasn't really been any other hints to when it will be released.

You can't call this small brainstorming in 2010 "development" in my opinion.

Yeah, I don't think it legitimately started development until around 2012. Back in 2013 Nomura said they really didn't have much done. I doubt it was much more than concepts back in 2010.

The brainstorming that started building KH3 (as well as the basic decision to finally get on with reaching for it) may have started as early as 2010, but that's about all it was, figuring out story and scenario ideas, in other words paper development. It wasn't really until 2012 when full on physical development started to happen, and by 2013 they showed proof that they were working on it with the famous initial teaser trailer. Since then it's been pretty obvious what stages they've been in up to today.

Thanks for clearing up the doubts/confusion I had, everyone.  It truly is amazing how rapidly Square Enix has been able to develop KH3 given that the animation work only began in 2012.  I really hope development with FF XV hurries up so it can be full speed ahead for KH3.

Where do you get the idea that once FFXV team finishes their game, they will team up with Osaka team ? Neither FFXVteam nor Square-Enix ever said something like that.

I think the FFXV team will venture off to Type-1, or months later depending on XV's success, XV-2 (I know I know, they want it to be a complete entry, but maybe). Although I do believe a portion of the game will migrate to KH3, because that'll be Square's next big release.
