hatok 6,413 Posted August 22, 2010 Okay, I keep seeing people complaining about the Cards in Chain of Memories (Let's face it, since the game came out) Contrary to common belief, the feature wasn't added as a stupid gimmick, or to annoy fans. It's not something that can 'just be taken out' The reason cards were used was to regulate how much happened on screen. Only one attack can occur at a time because of the Card system, and most attacks use images that have many layers of transparency. The game would lag immensely with each attack, and freeze during more fancy attacks (Trinity Limit and Boss attacks fro example) So in short, there was nothing Square could have done about the card system. hawk222 152 Posted August 22, 2010 While this does make sense, it doesn't make me want to play it anymore. I watched the cutscenes and some battles, read the story, and that was it.
CardCaptorDeadpool 386 Posted August 22, 2010 I always loved it, never understood the prejudice and from my understanding ReCOM really improved on the system
Think Pink 1,967 Posted August 23, 2010 I know it's either a love it or hate it thing, but the cards really don't bother me either way. I mean, at times it was kind of annoying, but you made a good point, with it freezing the screen and all of that.
hatok 6,413 Posted August 23, 2010 I always loved it, never understood the prejudice and from my understanding ReCOM really improved on the system I actually find it kind of worse. Your attacks were faster and had more a a punch to them in the original. It gave a lot of new abilities though. But basic combat took a turn for the worse IMO. keystrike 145 Posted August 23, 2010 Wow! I never knew this. But now that you mention it this totally makes sense. If only they chose not to put it on the GB in the first place, but anyways that was a clever and fun way to make the battle system work.
heartless101 83 Posted September 23, 2010 Thank you... finally I understand why they put the card system in there...
Keyblader 325 Posted September 25, 2010 true, it does regulate it a bit, i just find it a tad bit frustrating, i wonder how difficult it will be on proud mode? (im finally going through the toughest difficulties for each game, and im getting a feeling that this will be the hardest...), well at least it requires strategy, not just a whole bunch of mutton bashing (yay for dyslexia! btw, that is supposed to say button mashing...), sure you can, but it isnt gonna get you very far
Amon 4,279 Posted September 26, 2010 It was necessary for the GBA, but I still don't see why the card system still existed in the PS2 version. I know it was to keep things similar to the GBA version, but they knew the fans hated it.
hatok 6,413 Posted September 27, 2010 It was necessary for the GBA, but I still don't see why the card system still existed in the PS2 version. I know it was to keep things similar to the GBA version, but they knew the fans hated it. Well, it's a remake, and they made the cards integral to the plot, they couldn't exactly remove them. aubreyloveskh 16 Posted September 28, 2010 yeah, your right, it was necessary. however, i still don't like the gameplay, whether it was necessary or not. that doesn't mean i think it was a bad game, or that square enix was stupid for using cards in the gameplay. it just means i didn't enjoy using the cards. Sephiroth991995 2 Posted September 28, 2010 They could have removed the battle cards and keep the world cards :S

::Heart_XIII:: 2 Posted October 8, 2010 I personally like the card system, its kinda fun Same here. I never got to play the GBA version, but the card system is one of the reasons why Re:CoM is one of my favorite games. I enjoyed making sleights and putting them to use. Some of them were really awesome!
Panzy 0 Posted October 11, 2010 I love the cards system, even though it made me have some troubles in some battles. Yet, it makes sense someway I don't know how to explain... :]
