Aqua7KH 5,395 Posted December 16, 2015 Hey guys, I have a small dilemma. I don't know if I should get a Wii-U or wait for that Nintendo EX or whatever. I really want to get a Wii-U so I can get Smash and play as Cloud, Greninja, Rosalina and Bayonetta, as well as get Splatoon, but I don't know if it's worth buying when the next Nintendo console is gonna come out soon. When is it coming out? And will there be backwards compatibility with the NX and the Wii-U? I might ask it for Christmas and I don't want money wasted when the next console may come out soon. I'm willing to skip out on Smash and Splatoon since I have a 3DS and the next console might be backwards compatible. 1 OmegaForte reacted to this
Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted December 16, 2015 I would go ahead and get a Wii U. There's a lot of awesome titles for it, and they are also talking about a new Zelda for the Wii U that will possibly come out I *think* 2016-2017. With this in mind, I'm guessing that the Wii U is going to be the main console out for a while. It may be as much as two years before the new console is coming out, though I cannot say for certain. The Wii U really isn't that old yet, so I'd say go for it! It's my favorite console (besides my ancient SNES), and well worth the purchase.
Trece the Xam ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) 3,859 Posted December 16, 2015 If you want my opinion, only get a WiiU if you're sure you're going to buy WiiU exclusive games (like Splatoon, as you said), because Smash is already in 3DS. If you're willing to pay for WiiU games apart of all the other things you may want to buy (like 2.8 and a PS4 if you don't have one), and you're sure you'll enjoy the games, go for it. I mean, if you have many friends who would love to try out 5+ player smash, and you really want Splatoon, which I heard is pretty good actually, and you think these reasons are enough, then by all means do it. (Greninja, Rosalina, Cloud, and Bayonetta. Just, yes.)Rock on!
OmegaForte 1,674 Posted December 16, 2015 If you can still find the Super Smash Bros.+Splatoon bundle, then go for it. Otherwise unless you're buying more than just Super Smash Bros. (notably exclusive games), then I'd say wait for the NX.
Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted December 16, 2015 well are there enough games on the system that would justify a purchase? you don't wanna spend money on a console for just one game so it'd be a good idea to see what games are out that you'd play, and look into what games are being made that you are interested in. Plus there are the other features to consider like the Virtual Console games. Granted no one buys a new console for old games but it's an added bonus. The only games I'm going to play on it is just Splatoon and Smash. I would get Bayonetta 2 but I haven't even played any of the Bayonetta games so I'm gonna wait for that one. Other than that I'm not gonna get any Wii-U games expect for maybe Sonic Lost World and that's it. Lost World and Smash are on the 3DS, although I prefer Console versions. Technically the only Wii-U exclusive game I'm gonna get is Splatoon, and I'm willing to just skip out on all that and wait for the NX especially since I barely get to play my PS4 due to work and I still have 2.8 coming out and I have to finish the Remixes.I could ask for a capture card and maybe even a 2DS, since my 3DS' buttons really aren't working well. I really don't want to waste my parents money on something when the next version of it is gonna come out soon and I could just get that.As for the games again, I don't know if there's any good Wii-U exclusive games I'm gonna get except for Splatoon and Smash. Even then I'm willing to skip out on it because I suck at Smash anyway. I don't even play Brawl that much because of that. and I don't have any friends to play with on it. Not gonna lie, if Sora was in it I'd probably certainly get it, and I even said the same thing with Cloud. But still... I don't even know if I'd play Smash that much and I realllllly don't want to waste my parent's money. Edited December 16, 2015 by Aqua7KH

It's your money, you've got the final choice, but I wouldn't buy it only for Splatoon (you can get Smash for 3DS, I don't think you should get a WiiU only for it). Of course, if your friends have WiiU and you want to play online or something, that makes a difference.
KingdomHearts3 2,591 Posted December 16, 2015 You can get all those characters on the 3DS too. If I were you, I would wait and get a PS4 for HD2.8 and KH3.

MythrilMagician 6,963 Posted December 16, 2015 Difficult. For exclusives, I'd say yes get it. I don't know about the NX's backwards compatibility, but considering Nintendo these days, it's likely.

Awesome Sauce 634 Posted December 16, 2015 If you don't mind a new console coming out in 2017-2018 or not having many new releases over the year, I say go for it!
Captain Swagblader 280 Posted December 17, 2015 (edited) If it has console exclusives that you really, really need, then get it. A console is only worth it if you're going to play a couple of games on it. If you consider that Smash is on 3DS, and KH2.8 and 3 being on PS4, it depends on how much you want to spend, really. In this case, I'm going to have to say no. I can't justify getting a new console to play 2-3 games sometimes. Btw, this is just my opinion, you are free to go with yours. Minato arisato 253 Posted December 17, 2015 I'd say get the NX and just buy a buttload of the games you want, since Nintendo still allows that

Maybe I could play with my other friend but still. I have a PS4 already for that. Yeah, I understand not wanting to ask for something that you may or may not use to the fullest. There's also the fact to consider that the NX will probably be very expensive when it first comes out, way more than the Wii U's current retail. I tend to always go for consoles after they've been out a year or two to get a better price, so to me this would be the prime time to get a Wii U. That means you get to enjoy the Wii U while it still has some awesome releases and it's still new, and then you can wait a bit until the NX's price to go down. I think it all depends on how much you see yourself playing. And of course I want you to get a Wii U because I want to play Smash with you. Ultimately the choice is yours. I think it really depends on how many games you can see yourself playing on it and how much time you would be putting into it. I bought the PS3 almost strictly for Final Fantasy XIII, and now I have quite the collection of games on it and find myself really using it. Good luck! Hopefully you get something that you love for Christmas. : )

KH4Real 749 Posted December 17, 2015 Don't forget that the NX won't probably play the Wii titles that has alot of them. I had never a Wii by then so why not to get a WiiU since I found it cheap. I'm really excited now for Pokkén and ZeldaU.

Shulk 8,623 Posted December 17, 2015 If there are more games that you're interested in, I'd say go for it. It has a much more diverse library than most "hardcore" gamers give it credit for. It doesn't have as much third-party support, sure, but it has a lot of high-quality exclusives for a lot of genres (Platformer, shooter, RPG, racing, fighting, and more). If you're interested, I'd suggest maybe looking into some more of the system's releases just to make sure that it would be worth getting. If you're just after one or two games, it might be kind of tough to recommend. As for the NX deal, I honestly don't think the NX is coming as soon as most people think it will. Nintendo also said that they'll continue supporting the Wii U after the NX's release, so it's not like they'll just toss it to the side afterwards. The Wii U's a fantastic console (My personal favorite, to be honest), but I'd suggest looking into it more before deciding if you really want to get one. 1 Mystics Apprentice reacted to this
