Why Kingdom Hearts III Is NOT Confirmed for 2017

Posted

Hey, guys. It's me.

I'm making this post because of a VERY large misconception being spread through the community right now. As you know, there are positions open for the development of KH3 in Square Enix's 3rd Business Division. People such as production planners, lighting artist, effects designer, and assistant director are being hired to work on KH3.

At the same time, more news is being pumped out such as the new release of a KH3 Sora Play Arts figure (which is very exciting, yes).

Which brings us to the main problem here: people are taking all of this information and summarizing it into: "Hey! Kingdom Hearts III must be almost done!"

However, that is definitely not a fact. You see, just because people are being hired does not mean that KH3 is almost done. In fact, that very info alone should convince us that it's not to be seen in the near future. Regardless, this information can still be taken positively as this means that KH3 is moving along very smoothly and we can expect a release not too far into the future. (especially the post-production part, although this doesn't entirely mean the game is close to completion)

And, for some reason, people are getting the impression that a figure means a 2017 release for the actual game? I don't want to be pessimistic, but that's a pretty baseless opinion if you ask me. :P

Now, it's no one's fault. However, many people are spreading this misinformation and are changing people's minds. For example:

In this video, our good friend and a very popular person in the community, Jared, tells us about the new jobs open in Square Enix. However, people are taking away from this that this means KH3 is almost complete. (The title doesn't really help, considering it's speculation)

This results in comments like these:

Now, of course, we never said at any point that KH3 is almost done, we simply asked a question (which would be if we think it might be). However, to some people, this question is seen more as a fact than speculation, which will lead to people receiving false info in their head and spreading more complaints and negativity when the false fact is, of course, not true.

Which brings me to my main point: speculation is fine, in fact, it's encouraged. However, when people say that something related to Kingdom Hearts points to a 2017 release, even when it doesn't correlate to the actual release date, we're spreading misinformation in the community and bringing people's hopes up.

So, I encourage everyone to speculate as much as they want, but we should analyze something before making concrete conclusions like "KH3 is definitely coming out in 2017", especially when the word doesn't come from Nomura, Hashimoto, Yasue, etc.

Just be careful what you tell people, because even the smallest of information can blow up, especially when it comes to this franchise. I hope we can spread corrections to false information, so we can instead remain an informed community not confused by rumors.

None of this post was aimed at anyone, and it was just a problem that I saw arising with the sudden influx of news. So, I hope you take something from this! Have a nice day. :)

PS: Please don't attack anyone for misinformation, and instead remain as calm and collected as you can. This post is solely meant to be informative and a place for discussion.

Definitely agreed, videos like Cynical's sometimes mislead people and get their expectations up (Not really his fault to be fair).

It's definitely not confirmed but it seems more likely now with all these hints. It's either December 2017 (Anytime before October 2017 is a bad idea imo) or March 2018.

FF7R and KH3 can't come out in the same time frame else KH3's sales won't be very good. Depending on what the FF7R release frame is, then I can speculate what KH3's release frame is xD. The hints point to 2017, but I'll be fine with 2018 :)

Yeah, we never said it was confirmed. We just have more reason to believe 2017 is feasible.

Yeah, this was mostly meant as a "spread the corrections" kind of post. Unfortunately, I've seen a large spike of false information being spread in the community, whether it be YouTube comments, Reddit, etc.

JK, but I'm still am going to believe that it's a lot more possible for it to come out next year, I mean why look for someone for post-production if you are no where near it. And for those of you that are saying that it could be for 2.8, then that would be worrying because they should have been had someone for that by now.

If KH3 comes out before reFF7 then I think that could be a way around it.

Doubt that would happen, Nomura said in the last Famitsu that FF7R is getting a news blowout like 2.8. Therefore it could be closer to completion.

I don't think anybody with common sense thinks that it's actually confirmed, just that with all the news it seems a lot more likely that it will be next year. At the least, it doesn't seem like it'll be far off.

EDIT: It's likely a joke, but people might actually believe this. xD

Lol, to be honest I kind of expected the KH youtubers to blow it out of proportion anyways.

We will just have to be patient to see if they announce '2017' this winter but I'll admit, it is difficult to not see it releasing in 2017 after these recent revelations. It would seem strange to release a KH3 Sora figurine in January 2017, for KH3 to then come out in 2018. It would hurt me if we had to wait the best part of another 2 years.

Of course I'm not saying it's not a very real possibility, but when people say it's confirmed, that's where the line has to be drawn.

Oh yeah, I agree definitely

I suppose that I should also mention that post-production has only been mentioned in the job description of the lighting artist opening, meaning post-production is only being done for the lighting, not the entire game at this point.

2017 is just the likely possibility because we don't know of any other titles (the only possibility here is the ReMixes being brought to PS4) that will push back the release of KH3 to 2018. We don't know what will happen.

Nah they are first focusing on KH3 and 2.8.

They were already far in 2015.

They haven't ruled it out. So who knows? We haven't heard anything else yet. Even if their main focus is KH3, they'll need something to keep us busy if it isn't ready for a 2017 release.

And those games are KHx and 2.8 for until KH3.

If they are releasing the PS4 HD Remix people will be like ok Square I'm done with this.

So it is better to release the HD Remixes after KH3..

It's up to them. If they need to release it before or after they decide.

Yeah, I see what you're getting at here!  We're all just speculating that a 2017 release is looking much more likely now, but some people misinterpret it as confirmation, so I get what you're doing with your post, man, so thanks for that! :)

And on the subject of speculation, good God, all these low key hints are too tantalizing to not indicate a coming release window for Kingdom Hearts III!  I mean, why toss around the word post production if the game isn't at least 75 to 80 percent done!?  This has to hint at something!  And the figurine of Sora coming out on January also is another hint!  Because why would Square release a KHIII Play Arts figure if the game is not even near release?  So I'm hoping that these hints lead towards a late 2017 release, which I would love! :D

The websites that no one goes on do this stunt for publicity. It can be implied that 2017 is KH3's release. However, of course it isn't confirmed.

I explained the post-production aspect a couple posts ago. It's just for the lighting, so I'm not sure why this should mean the game is close to completion. lol

Yeah, I know it's just referring to the lighting, but I'm just on edge, way too excited!!!  I need whatever it is we'll get in December to calm me down, regardless of what it is! xD

With Final Fantasy XV, we were all losing hope and at the Uncovered event, they ended up making the release date much closer than we thought.

With Kingdom Hearts 3, we now all have the feeling Square will do something like that, but that'd be a punch to the gut if they had that wheel and they trick us by highlighting 2017 but then move it up to 2018 lol I'd actually would lmao xD

They want to release a KH game every year so FF7R will be released afterwards, the news blowout is just about releasing more info about the game, and what they will do with the game speaks nothing about completion. They could be 30 percent done and have one
