Tetsuya Nomura to provide "final information" on Kingdom Hearts III at D23 Expo 2017

Tonight at the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - in LA, the Kingdom Hearts series' director Tetsuya Nomura has made another appearance. As translated by the official concert interpreter, Nomura tells fans that he will return in a month for D23 Expo 2017 on July 15, 2017, with "final information" on Kingdom Hearts III. We do not yet know the content of this final information, but we do know that at D23 Expo 2017 we will see a new world reveal as well as a new trailer, as was announced in the most recent Kingdom Hearts III trailer from yesterday's LA concert.

UPDATE 1: At yesterdays Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - in LA, Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura made his third appearance. According to @SkywardWing on Twitter, who was at the concert, Nomura tells fans that, as translated by the official concert interpreter, "If this month's announcements made you happy, next month's will make you even happier." He is referring to the upcoming news and trailer at next month's D23 Expo 2017 on July 15th.

UPDATE 2: During the final Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - in Osaka, Japan, Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura stated that they raised expectations high for the new Kingdom Hearts III information and news being revealed at D23 2017. He makes sure to note that it will be "normal" Kingdom Hearts III news, and he would like people to spread this word.

I somehow also feel like there was some kind of mosunderstanding or mistranslation?

Not to be too optimistic, but usually, final information is provided close to a release date. 2.8 had its last trailer one month before its release and quite frankly, KH3 seems to be very far away from that.

2017 doesn't seem to be an option, which is good because we haven't really seen much of the game and quite a few things still need some work.

I don't know either what that should be interpreted as, but I doubt the word final refers to last in this case. Might be final before they go into full promotion, set a release date/year, go on a merry break to let us wait, etc.

We also know that square often shows us ingame footage from earlier versions of the game not the most up to date. Honestly they probably just don't want to spoil a bunch of worlds and info.

Ah, the endless speculation continues.  This has to be the absolute longest production cycle for any KH game, ever.  Even so, as long as Square is really taking their time with the details and core gameplay mechanics, the quality will really show.

I can wait for KH3, seeing as I haven't even started 1.5 + 2.5 on PS4 yet

But I understand why others are growing more anxious or impatient.  Every trailer we've seen has been showing that the game is getting better and better, that there will be a certain "depth" to it, at least from what I gather.

It will be something like "We announce that we FINALLY have things to announce soon. LOOK FOWARD TO IT WAIT A LITTLE LONGER AND DIE WAITING 'CAUSE IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN ANYTIME SOON''

"Kingdom Hearts III is canceled. There will be no further news."

Now that would be quite of a final information. And to be honest I don't believe it would be that bad at all. We could all rest in peace and Nomura could focus on FF7 Remake.

Yeah, it is. 2013-2017+. And it's probably the most difficult (and one of the longest if it's anything like KH2)

Yeah, you're right. You could see the scenes where the screenshots were taken from back when they released them with 0.2's intro. So quite a bit is probably a few months old.

I don't mind if they don't spoil too much, but they have to show something new to make it appealing, especially to people who are not die-hard fans. Promotion is also an essential part, unless they want to release it 2019/20, which isn't impossible. I'm not expecting a 30 minute synopsis trailer of KH3's story with all worlds included in a neat list with a corresponding trailer to show for each, just something more substantial to make it more interesting. To make people want to know what the hell is going on.

Of course it shouldn't spoil too much, but BH6 was announced so long ago and they still haven't shown us anything from that. Then there's the interview where Nomura said that some worlds are not even in anpresentable state yet... That all doesn't really make me believe we're near a point where anything could be considered final.

We know SE by now. Especially SENA and SEEU. It's Nomura, he'll want it perfect before it'll be dropped, that's number one. Even if this footage is months old, it's the first gameplay footage we've seen since Jump Festa 2016 (which was released in 2015 by the way). English localization aside from the menu (which I think has been done since 2015 as well) is unknown to the public. Story details are unknown to the public aside from the fact that Sora apparently wants to bring Roxas back. Graphics are outdated in the latest trailer, as emphasized by 0.2 Sora's model. They've only shown off two worlds. There has been almost no gameplay talk aside from "reaction commands don't exist" and "we went with the original KH2-KH1 menu style, please look forward to it" and stuff about Keyblade transformations.

In order for Q1 2018, they'd have to announce the release by D23 which is HIGHLY unlikely. You can make the point that 2.8 was announced and released in a very short time frame, but realize 2.8 was a remastered game, a movie, and what essentially was a demo. It needed far less QA testing than 3 needs, much less bug bashing, much less story development and frankly, had much less expectations than 3 does. If they're showing off months old footage it means they're not ready yet for the game to be shown off in its current state, which means it's definitely not going to be ready by D23, which means it's definitely not getting a release date 6 months away. Not to be a pessimist, it's just how game development works. Takes putting the pieces together.

I could be all wrong. It could just be that Nomura wants to surprise us. But the fact that the devs are extremely tight lipped and that Nomura is working on two huge projects at the same time, I find it highly unlikely.

FFXV didn't get a 5th year in development when tabata asked for it and it's a game that is currenlty sitting on the number of 9 million units shipped. SE is a company and they want money , LIKE IT OR NOT the game is gonna come out in 2018 , idk when but square won't spend a 6th and final year of  money and resources on a game that won't surpass their previous juggernaut. Don't get me wrong they are putting a lot of time and effort into this but as someone who knows about how the industry works(and intends to work in it) and and has read every tidbit about this game since 2013 , this game will not have a 6th year of development time. If Nomura tells them i can't have it done they're gonna release it anyway because a deadline is a firetrucking deadline. They released FF XV in the state they did which is their biggest franchise and focus so why would they not with kh3? Also if the game comes out and feels unfinished it's not Square's fault but the teams and mainly the director's.

Peace out.

Thanks for sharing this info with us, Mystics!

Hmm, this is very intriguing! I wonder what "final information" will entail? It sounds very important, and right now, what comes to mind is that we may finally get a release window! If that's the case, then dang, that's gonna be one heck of an announcement for the ages!

Nomura is a sly fox! Just when dry season is about to take us under, Nomura comes back and whets our appetite for KHIII news with a vengeance! :D

Do you think he meant that he would be giving the final information for KH3 this year and he won't be giving anything else until next year?

Never disputed 2018. The 2018 release is definite. But to push it out to the Q1 period of 2018, the way all the cards are falling right now, it is not going to be early in the year. I expect release information by TGS/Jump Festa for Summer/Fall of 2018.

I understand that the business part of SE makes a deadline for the developers because the business part wants money. And lots of it. That is especially why FFXV came out the way it did, with extreme amounts of cut content and just overall "meh" in terms of story

What I'm asking here is, if you believe the "Final Information" is going to be a release time for KH3, do you think it would be a release date or release year?

What are your thoughts.
