My best guess for why it's doing that is that those are artifacts from recoding the Japanese script to english characters. The Japanese font is a bit taller and "Stacks" (two lines on screen at once) more often than the English one, either that or it's a graphics glitch on your emulator.

I thought Coded was worse. CoM was trying something different and actually had a somewhat worthwhile story. Coded just felt like a complete waste of time.

I think it may have to do with collecting most of the trophies, beating the Mysterious Figure or clearing the Mirage Arena. i never figured it out myself, I just sort of got it.
