no chain of memories is not turn based. it is like the other kh's but different. it uses a card based system where you can use a combo of three cards to pull off speicial attacks. each card has a card value 0-9 the higher the better. because your opponents use cards as well. although its good to have some 0 cards handy in case your opponent uses a combo of cards as well. basically your 0 is your block. no ultima weapon isnt nessacary for secret endings. nomura recomends you play Terra Ventus then aqua to understand the story the best and according to jiminy's journal angel stars were born from holy spells
