    I think that's just how the sprite ended up looking. The official artwork still showed it as black.

    I thought that picture came out after the game was made, so I think the purple one is what they were going for at first, but then changed it.

    I'd imagine it came out at some point around the games' release. I remember Sneasel ended up looking entirely different from its artwork in the sprite, so I'm guessing it was some weird limitation or issue with the hardware.

    Well I still think that the color in Smash is a reference to the sprite, since there is not a black Charizard and surely they wanted to give Charizard the shiny form that the other Pokemon don't have

    That's possible, although I just saw it as being like any other color change. I still use it to make Ridley jokes, though. :P

     

    I'm kind of disappointed none of the Pokemon got shiny colors. I thought that would be an obvious choice.

    Well Greninja kind of got his, only a bit different, and Charizard's sprit could be like what I said.

     

    Plus, color swaps are a way to resemble another character of the franchise, like Wii Fit Trainer's green costume is her/his outfit from Wii Fit U, and all of Lucina's color swaps are supposed to represent females of FEA

    Some color swaps are that way, like in the case of Lucina and Shulk. Most are just random color changes, though.

    Theirs are more of subtle references, although I'd say Shulk and Lucina's have the most references, considering all of their costumes represent different characters from their original game (Except for Shulk's swimsuit/underwear, but that's also a reference to Xenoblade).

    Well I think P and JP have some of the most special ones at least. Cause Pikachu has most of the male trainer hats, and then references to past Smash games, and then Jigglypuff has Pokemon hats and other special meanings

    Yeah, kind of disappointing to a Sinnoh fan, but what can you do? At least he has the party hat from Smash Bros 1 and the Pichu googles from Melee

    So in March I will be getting Mario and Toad Amiibo from the Super Mario line, and then I will be getting Pac-Man next. And I hope to get Duck Hunt and Bowser Jr when they get released! So many Amiibo, so little time to earn money!

    I simply found that effect baffling, it's not about being "easy to explain". It's very rare (assuming it's ever happened before) for something like this to happen and for some people(like me) the color legitimately changed before our eyes. I'm just really intrigued
