Honestly, speaking as an American, the historical meaning has been pretty much forgotten. It's more about football and family these days.

It's the least cared about American holiday because it always gets shoved into to l the limelight by Christmas.

Naw, the least cared is Arbor Day

The first Thanksgiving was actually more like a union between the natives and the pilgrims. They got together, put aside their differences, and had a feast. It wasnt until more people showed up and demanded land and for the natives to convert and etc that the relationship between the pilgrims and the natives went to shit.

You can blame the Puritans for that. As you can for most things that went wrong in early America.
