You ever notice how these newer Disney+ series seem to start with episodes that are somewhere between 45 minutes to an hour, then start to drop to just over half an hour for the rest of the season?

since it's an online series, they aren't restricted to a time block per episode but rather a full run time for the series now. they tend to use the pilot to hook viewers so they'll set up lots of story beats in the first episode and basically take up a good chunk of the time just to make sure viewers come back

it destroys pacing but keeps engagement and numbers high which is all they care about lol

Yeah, true. Guess I got so used to that that I forgot how nice it can be to have the full hour spent on the show (having recently watched one piece)
