Something to note as well is that, adding to the joke, the Sonic in this movie isn’t canon Sonic; he’s the rejected model everyone hated initially.

i never watched the other 2, but i have a genuine question: what's the point? i mean, what kind of stories are left for this? 1st one was... well, i didn't watch it so i guess i don't know. but apparently the 2nd one was about him training a new generation. is #3 supposed to just shift the lead role to a new person or something?
