Something I've been thinking about lately: Why would Xemnas place Marluxia out of all people as the head of Castle Oblivion? Marluxia was one of the newer members when he was placed in charge of the castle, why would Xemnas put a newbie in charge instead of a senior member like Vexen?

I always thought Saix told Axel in days that Xemnas knew who the traitors were and sent them their, but then again it has been a while since I played days.

Xemnas might have known Marluxia was, or at least the potential to be, a traitor. But didn't have proof, so he sent him as far away as he could?

I remember this too, but nevertheless Castle Oblivion held a lot of importance, and it confuses me that Xemnas would put Marluxia as the head of the castle, and allow Marluxia to actually try to put Sora to his use after he already knew what his plans were.

hmm, I agree. Vexen would seem to be a much better candidate for leader, and he was after all doing all of the experiments on memories that Xemnas was curious about. I don't think Xemnas knew his scientist would be killed by Axel, leaving the traiters to be eliminated, the search for Sora to continus, and the experiments to continue.

you know i have always wondered that, ever since i heard Zexion had (and he sounded so disgusted about it too) announced that Marluxia was the lord of the castle and had died in Riku's story of CoM. I thought that Xemnas would have some respect to rank...and give highest ranked member the honor of being lord...like Vexen.

But was he thinking...having Marluxia as being ruler of the castle. And my conclusion is that they were up to the same thing and wanted to get it.

Saiix had told Axel that there were going to be traitors, becuase he had been told by Xemnas that there would be traitors...but didn't want to list the ones who were subjected to that catagory...becuase we don't get to see that part in days.

But since i've been playing days, i think ...now... that the reason why Xemnas had appointed Marluxia to be lord; becuase he was so obvious that he was going to betray the organization...and to see if it was he was right, he had give the power to Marluxia as a test.

Axel had his own reasons for betraying the organization and as we find out in kh2 it was to see Roxas. However, in order to do so he had to kill or find a way around the members in of Castle Oblivion to see him.

However as we find CoM, we find that Marluxia is really a traitor and wanted to use Sora as puppet in order to take over the organization. As i continued to play days,I saw -for the short amount of time that Marluxia was there- that he had delevoped a small lust for power when Roxas had joined the group.And then it dawned on me that it was becuase of that small lust that Xemnas decided to give Marluxia a test to see if he really wanted to power to control over the organization; by dispatching him with five others to castle oblivion...and if he ...okay i don't even want to know what would've happened if he had succeeded; but he failed and there fore proved that having the power to rule was just way to much for him...and that was all thanks to mighty Axel for letting Namine go and let her fix Sora's memory. So that's what i think on why Marluxia was picked to be Lord of Castle of Oblivion instead of Vexen or even Zexion.

Because Marluxia is strong and responsible. Plus the other members might have more important things to do.

I agree with all of this but did you mean to mention that the original reason why Axel betrayed the organization in CO was because of his plan with Saix?

yes, i did mean that...that had slipped my mind, becuase i was so caught up in talking about Why Xemnxas had given Marluxia the title of Lord of Castle Oblivion. that i had forgotten to mention it. Sorry about that.

That a good question. I wonder about that too. Well I like to say of Marluxia's rank as the 11th member. It has two 1 in it. There more to it but thats what I think. :lol:

That's simple, Xemnas knew he was the only other Org member who could turn into a final boss.

I think that maybe Xemnas wasn't completely sure if he was one of the traitors or not, and to discover the truth, he put him there as a commander. Maybe he was sure that Larxene was one of the traitors. So, putting Larxene? No.

What about Vexen and Zexion?

I think that those weren't chose because being the weakest members who departed to CO, they could be easily destroyed by Marluxia and Larxene who could take over the castle, also taking two members from the organization.

No, definitely no.. I really think that he'd never be the commander.. He is so quiet..But.. maybe.. What if Saix asked if he wanted to be the commander and reported about the traitors, they decided to let Marluxia, since he was one of them.

Axel?

No.. he wasn't even in the members who were going there. I do believe that knowing that the others would probably fail, Saix just put him to kill the traitors. No more than that.

Everything you said is 100% true. Xemnas was very suspicious of Marluxia and some of the other members to betray the Organization. He most likely wanted Marly to be the Lord of the castle to see if he could weed him out and to have evidence that Marluxia was plotting a traitorous act. That's why Axel was sent to C.O. as well, to obtain proof of Marluxia's plan and to eliminate the traitors as well (as well as eliminating Zexion). And you're also right about why Axel left/betrayed the Org. in KH2. But it was not only to be with Roxas, it was also because he felt like he had a heart and could feel whenever he was around Roxas as well. But I do have to dissagrer with Marluxia not handling power. He didn't really lose control of power because of Axel freeing Namine. He was just angered that his plans were in ruins and that Axel had meddled in his affairs.

I have a feeling that Xemnas didn't put Marluxia in charge himself, instead, he probably told Saix to handle everything. Xemnas suspected a traitor and told him to do whatever he thought would get Marluxia eliminated, or something like that (not realizing that Saix and Axel are technically more traitorous than Marluxia). Larxene the blabber-mouth also probably lead to Saix overhearing their plan and informing Xemnas. Saix then thought that if Axel wormed his way to Marluxia's and Larxene's trust, he could have them eliminated.

 

Also, just something for fun, notice all the similarities Marluxia and Xemnas share? They walk similarly (Marluxia tends to move his butt a lot, and Xemnas does too, that is, when he's not acting like Mr.Superior- watch the cutscene in Days on the Dark Margin and compare that to Marluxia in Re:CoM), they have practically the exact same body build (if their hoods are up, you'll have difficulty telling them apart), and they both talk about Nothingness. Plus, they always remain serene, regardless of the scenario. They both also enjoy power and being "Lord".

Marluxia was strong, and his leadership abilities obviously led him to be Lord of Castle Oblivion. However, Xemnas knew that there were traitors and thus sent them to Castle Oblivion, why? Because of Sora and Riku. Xemnas has always seemed one step ahead and probably knew that the duo would end up at CO, and also knew that they would be able to annihilate anyone that stood in their way, which, with the help of Axel, they did. Want to get rid of traitors, send them to an isolated Castle to meet their doom...that's my theory.
