We discovered that, I believe it was the Soviet Union and Germany, were working on creating atomic warfare, so we decided that we needed to be the first to successfully create one.

Dropping the bomb did not end life on Earth as we know it in fact as of 2009 both Nagasaki and Hiroshima are vibrant vital cities. Dropping the bomb was proof positive that America could make and would use Atomic Weapons. Dropping the bombs broke the will of the Japanese to engage in a suicidal death to the last man woman child strategy.

The Japanese were going to kill more of themselves than we ever did or planned to. I agree what happened was tragic, but in the end we actually halted the possible death toll. It would have been a lot worse for the Japanese if we hadn't. There might not even have been a Japan today if we hadn't.

By killing 200,000 innocent people. YEAH!

Actually other countries came up with the idea first. Then we had to be buttheads and change the name. To 99% of the world, their idea of football is different. So in this scenario, America is actually probably wrong.
