Sony needs to cancel this NOW before they waste too much money.

They don't need to cancel it, they just need to actually know who their customers are and make the necessary adjustments

Thank God I never bought a fixed console again since 2004.

I think they should cancel it, because then I would have bought a ps3 for no reason, and KHIII would be for ps4, because Nomura said on the newest Device.

Nomura said nothing about the newest gaming console. I really wish KH went PC so I could play it whenever I build my PC. I know I can emulate most of the titles (all but 1 actually) but the newer games won't be able to be emulated... http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/smiley-confuse.png

5. Pretty simple: the 360 is easier to develop multiplat games on, so most developers make it on the X-Box and then port it to the PS3 and / or PC (except for most MMOs and EA shooters). Whatever console the game was initially developed for will look and perform the best.

If these things turn out to be true, then I wouldn't disagree in saying that the PS4 might (at least initially) be a flop. But 4 of your 5 points are unconfirmed rumors. Wait for confirmation before using them as points for or against an argument.

dude sony what the heck, WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO US, I wish i could play all my ps2 games on my ps3 that would be awesome! and alot of people agree, and this has been called for change within the next system, so why are you ignoring our claims? and why the hell are you making it impossible to play used games on it? like seriously sony... why

These days you should know that if you buy something several years after it was first released it has either already been replaced or will be soon. Plus revolving all of your big purchases around Kingdom Hearts games (especially kingdom hearts games that haven't even been announced) is rather silly.

Yeah I know, but I bought that around the time when kh3 was the hype, before kh3d and coded

This information is from Kotaku which is well known for it's reliable third-party sources. Usually when the source isn't revealed it means someones job would be in jeopardy if the person was identified which means it was probably from someone working on the PS4.

Plus they have actual system specifications, those are rather hard to speculate or make up.

This thread is rather interesting.I will not descredit the sorce OR credit it.I guess only time will tell if this is all true, and if KH III will be on the PS4 or PS3.I highely doubt it will be on a non-PS system.

I would like to wait and see the official announcement, but I can tell you the internet requirement would really hurt me. You're right. Many people who live in big cities with easy access to the internet forget that in other parts internet is not as accessible. I live in the country and I'm lucky to have high speed internet instead of dial-up. But my internet is still capped to only 1gb a day and I have to watch how much internet I use. If a game uses the internet a lot just to run it, then I won't be able to play it freely. This would change when I move, but I can see a lot of other people in the same predicament.

And your last point about used games I can see happening unfortunately. In Japan it is illegal to buy used games. They don't see the used game market the same way we do. In their culture they believe what benefits business benefits everyone; if business does well and improves, the country's standards of living will improve with it. You can typically see Japanese people paying more for a homemade product than a cheaper overseas import because they believe their money will ultimately benefit them in the end. So that also extends to used games where none of the money will reach the people who made it. The Japanese made it illegal because it reflects their values. Unfortunately those value differ largely with the Western world. Where Japanese see the system as protecting against illegal activity, overseas see it as controlling the customer so they can't get a good deal going to another retailer.

Ultimately, if this is true for PS4, then I can see it hurting bad overseas, but it will still sell well in Japan. Even if XBox tops the sales, they don't sell hardly as well in Japan. I think Sony prepared this console as a Japanese hardware and shirked their global costumers (or just don't understand our differing values)

I can see your point. In America our concern is how the business effects the individual rather than the whole. As you probably know, we believe that in order for the whole to be strong, it has to be backed by a conglomerate of strong individuals. We think smaller and more locally where as some think wider and more globally. Some would call it selfishness but I call it independence. Even today we still haggle prices even when they are clearly printed. Just a few months back some woman held up the grocery line for 10 minutes because she insisted that "20% off" coupon that expired a year ago was still valid because she allegedly recived it directly from the coupon dispenser in the store yesterday. She talked to the manager and met halfway at 10%.

It wouldn't be a problem if this only applied to Japan and the software would be different on western consoles. However I think that in order to detect that a disk was used, the blue ray laser would have to put somecode or something on the disk to later detect that it was used. The western version wouldn't be different because this would be a hardware based difference, not software based one which has never happened before. If Sony doesn't plan to have this as a feature in America then I would guess that they would have to make completely separate consoles (as opposed to just installing different programs) which I would imagine being rather expensive to do, further increasing the price tag.

But Kotaku got it from a 'reliable source.' And who would that be? You sound like an Xbox-360 fan-boy who's trying to discredit the Sony franchise. Sadly, so does the article. Sony has never announced this, so I'll take your info with a grain of salt.

As I mentioned in a reply to baylust "reliable source" is essentially a codeword for "this guy would get fired if we told you who he was".

Do you honestly think that specifications that specific regarding the internal hardware could be speculated? It would be one thing if we knew the maker of the processor, it would be another if we knew exactly which processor was being used, which is exactly what happens.

You also have to note that this thing is expected to come out in 2013, which means it will probably be announced at E3 2012 which isn't as far away as you may think. If I was talking about this even last year I could see room for doubt. But for people to be speculating this just months before the likely announcement date then it's probably accurate.

This can also be a stealthy way of testing overall reactions to the product. Apple "accidentally lost" the Iphone 4 and Iphone 4S so people can learn of it's features before they were officially announced and then they made adjustments based on the negative reactions.

With a console that sounds as impractical as the PS4 I'd guess that Sony noticed the possible problems and decided to test the overall public reaction. It's a well known tactic among many companies. They intentionally start rumors and speculation to see if people are going to like what they think is a good idea. But with "good ideas" as flawed and screwed up as these I doubt they would be able to fix them without completely scrapping the project.

Also I'm hardly an Xbox fanboy. A PC fanboy if anything. I haven't played any xbox exclusives in months and half the time the Xbox is on it's just to use Xbox Live party chat to talk to all of my friends at once in PC games or just for overall chatting. You wouldn't understand considering the playstation only lets you talk in real time to people in the same game as you. It's much less being a fanboy and more being a hater. I used to be a Sony fanboy until I realized other companies produce products of better or equal caliber for similar or less prices.

I like their televisions and sound systems though.

Not to mention that if they did that, they would have to have a region block so that Japanese who want to break the law won't just import an NA PS4. Which would really piss me off cause I'm already mad I can't import DDD. That's one of the few things Sony has going for it.

Yeah that's another big problem! It doesn't really effect me since I live only about 30 minutes by express train (hour by regular rail) from NYC (you can find anything there) but I know that could be a real pain in the butt for people who live in countries that don't have certain games, such as Australia, due to their strict game ratings.

i will have to agree with the people saying this is just rumors. for the moment.

i have also seen the article too and if i remember cerrectly. The article said that all the info came from one sources and that sources is not a offical statement from the company or endorsed by the company. so we cant just go and say that this is all true or its going to be true.We wont be able to say that until maybe next year because Sony is not just up to it at the moment or dose not want to reveal information before it is sure about the info its going to give out is going to be true in the long run.

also about the info

the processing power was alot better on the ps3 so that it would encourage developers who did not want to deal with the "subpar" (not to insult its just i cant think of a better word at the moment. sorry) GPU and CPU and went over to PS3 to be able to develope a better game and system. even though the picture above does show that the both does not have that much of a difference in the picture. it also only shows on game out of the 100s that the system has. Another thing to think about that its not the systems problem that the game does not look perfect (all systems. not just the PS3 and Xbox 360). blame can also be put onto the developers also.

about the backwards capability: if i remember from the article does not say that the system will or will not feature the ability to play ps3 games. but to be honest with ya i wont be to suprized if it wont be able to. because your trying to play a ps3 game on a all differnent system.. im not saying that its going to be like trying to play a ps2 game on a computer. but its not going to be like playing a playstation game on a PS3.. its also going to cost more to include it because your not only selling a ps4, your also trying to sell the ps3 that come along with it.

Also if im right sony will not be making a announcement on the PS4 this year at E3

Hence why the source probably needs to remain anonymous, the person who leaked even minor details would be in big trouble.

There were other examples that I could find. I chose Crysis given that it was designed for the PC first and was ported directly to the 360 and the PS3 which would prevent any bias caused from a 360 game being ported to the PS3 and vice versa. When games are ported they are done with optimal performance which is the same for xbox 360 and PS3.

Then you should probably try reading it again.

I could not get what you were trying to say here, please clarify.

PlayStation 3 = Blu-ray'

Xbox 360 = HD DVD

Sony actually do want their money. Their products are expensive because they are not full of money. They need the money.

But regardless the PlayStation 4 will be superior to the Wii U and Xbox 720. The trend has been that the PlayStation console is always on top. And that will continue for a 4th straight era.

tutti frutti. Sony needs to more so think about what gamers want in a console. For a regular DVD player, I'm not too picky about that since it beats have to pay extra cash for a separate DVD player, but I wouldn't want to have the price go up for a Blue-Ray/HD player installed in the console. I find buying used games to be a great help to countless gamers since it allows those who haven't played a particular game. Fellow member Not-With-A-Whimper recommended a game called "White Knight Chronicles 2," since I asked him/her about it since I've heard backs and forths about the game. I got a used copy of the game and I love the game from what I've played of it. I find buying used games important. Backwards compatibility is definitely a necessity in the gaming world. I could understand if it was a similar situation with Nintendo, where they had cartridges for their games for a couple of consoles before going to disks for their consoles.

I'm seriously hoping that these rumors are false. I would have thought that Sony would have learned from the problems with the PS3. The high price to no backwards compatibility. This is flat out ridiculous if they are going through with this.

Blu-ray is cool and all but it doesn't make a difference in gameplay. The only advantage that blue ray offers is more space on the disk and considering that some PS3 games actually require you to go through a lengthy install, they don't even speed up load times. More space on the disk doesn't even matter anymore considering directly downloading games to your console is starting to become more common. Blu-ray came too late to make a major difference. It took until the end of 2011 for HD DVDs to become obsolete (with Battlefield 3 requiring two disks)

Also the 360 has sold more than the PS3 and the Wii has sold more than the PS3 and 360 combined. The 360 also has the largest online gaming network, probably because unlike PSN, Xbox Live is good for more than just playing games which as a recent Yahoo article (who's link feels like not working) put is now more widely used for general entertainment than games and is starting to become a popular family console just because of it's fantastic online abilities.

This has two major flaws; one you need to actually have enough space to hold these multi-gigabyte games (Which will presumably be much bigger than that on a console that can output in a resolution four times 1080p) And second of all, downloading those games takes a very long time for a lot of people. It doesn't matter what internet connection you have, it's still going to take a good few hours to download and install, an 18 GB game.

Granted, the download/install thing could be worked around quite easily if companies would stop screwing over the general populace by pretending THEY aren't the ones limiting the speed at which you may download or upload things.

Still, having enough space for a game is a valid concern. Especially going by what Sony seems to believe memory is worth (100 dollars for 32 GB is you don't know.remember)

Even if you can download the games quickly, downloading them repeatedly is irksome.

You know, it's a shame, I had two lengthy posts replying to this topic, supporting a lot of the stuff you said, but they both got deleted accidentally. Since then, most of the stuff I've been meaning to say has been said :/

It seems my posts in your topics are cursed...

If they were smart, they'd do what they did with the PS2; make the weakest, cheapest console, which is easy to develop for, and watch as everybody buys it. Nintendo copied Sony's tactic with the Wii (Along with the casual gambit) and succeeded. They copied this tactic again with the 3DS (Once they got the 'cheapest' thing right) and it worked, again.

Why Sony hasn't seen a pattern is beyond me.
