So I'm kinda fed up with all hate that gamers get. I don't understand why people think that there is no way that its hobby and playing video games is thing what little kids do. Then: ALL games are about killing and shooting and there is no room for emotions. All gamers are nerds who live in their locked room.

 

I'm pretty disapointed how things are: People are thinking gamers very stereotypic way. And somehow everything bad what happens is video games' fault.

 

I would like to hear you guys' opnions about this thing. I even have thought that I would try to make article about gaming: what it is really about, why people are playing video games and why it should be counted as hobby.

I agree.

Constantly people have debated about this.Too much violence in this or sexualcontent in that,,just get over it already.Hypothetically, just because some guy went on a killing after playing call of duty does not mean everyone will repeat his actions.I LOVE kingdom hearts,but I'm not gonna swing my Keyblade at random people!I myself play games as a way to another world.To sometimes take a break and escape from the reality that is life itself.Yes, you can immerse yourselves in these worlds, but try not to lose yourself getting there.

Same thing with anime. People think that just because its a cartoon, it's for kids. Meanwhile many anime have mature story lines that a 7yr old wouldn't be able to grasp. Me personally, I've loved reading since I was a little kid so the kinds of video games I play and anime I watch are the ones with an engaging plot and characters I care about, weather I like the character or hate him I actually care about what happens to them. Take Xehanort for example. I hate the manipulative little weasel so I want to see him get his butt kicked. I want to see Sora succeed and I want Riku to get to a point where he's not worried about his darkness. like I said love 'em or hate 'em I care about what happens to them. That why I keep playing.

Playing games isn't considered a hobby? Isn't a hobby just using your free time doing something that entertains you? Honestly, I've never been stereotyped when being a gamer. Sure, I play Call of Duty, but my life isn't all about violence. I play games because to me, some of them are interactive stories or movies or just something to kill time. They can be an adventure, a thriller, or a pile of garbage. I play games because I see them as how "normal" people don't. People think video games are just video games. They are passages to another world (like mentioned above) and there are many wonderful and beautiful things that can be found in gaming. One game that I absolutely love is Journey. No other game has made me trust in a complete stranger that I couldn't communicate fully with and make me feel so much emotion as that game has. Kingdom Hearts gave me lots of memories. The series even has beautiful music for its soundtrack. I think that the many Dearly Beloveds are just amazing, soothing, and well, beautiful. I don't care what other people think about video games. They're important to me just like how a celebrity might be important to another person.

Don't pay too much attention to others' opinions and just go play more video games

I play video games because I like customizing/creating characters.

Usually, people who say such things do vapid, shallow things with their free time. Like partying or drinking or doing drugs. Totally living life to the fullest.

 

This is based on people I know, don't anyone take offense...

I have never experienced any of those stereotypes...

Everyone who I have ever met (in my generation) either plays games themselves or is just not into them... no one outright refuses to play games becuase they are childish / violent / nerdy / whatever or looks down upon gamers for those reasons.

 

As far as people blaming violent events on video games... I really haven't seen that happen since Jack Thompson lost his license (and even before he lost his license I never really heard about it while it was actually happening...) Seems like it's just him and a few other guys taking that stance... not a majority of anyone.

Nothing like that where I live, actually about 3/4 of my class plays games, even the hot girls and no one hates.

People are just :angry: that the gaming industry is starting to gain the lead.

 

A video game once made more money than any movie in history. That was MW2. There is a cultural icon more heavily recognized than any other. That icon is Mario.

 

A decade from now, people will look at you strangely if you DON'T play video games.

I say firetruck them in all honestly. If that happens where I live you either play them barely play or just don't. I love to play games that's why I'm going to the field of animation as my college major. Because I enjoy games ever since I was a child. Games changed my word and I'm glad they did. If you like games good for you. If you like doing any other hobbies like coin collecting, or what have you. Good for you, enjoy it. And don't worry about what other people say.

More and more colleges are offering game design... back in the day the game industry was run by people in the film industry along with computer people but that's all changing. If you want to do anything with games then you're going to need a degree in game design.

VG's dont bring me violence I just find them to be fun to play and a challenge sometimes. Of course many compete Xbox Live, Multiplayer, PS3 Network, etc. But heyyy it's a life style these days i suppose ;D I swear though that violence and language dosen't really come from Video Games though everyones just learning it from being out in public cause almost all the population cusses Thats just my point of view

Yeah I already know that, maybe I should have been more precise. I am going for game designing, But I am also doing some animation, graphics design etc.. I want to get a fair share of experience in some fields. I want to make my own animation show, movie, game, or w/e that's why I said animation.

i totaly agree. last year there was a bombing and a killing spree by this mad man in Norway. and guess what. he played WoW so every one is bitching about that and it freaking annoys me, i mean i he probably drank soda too and listened too music and shit.
