FINAL FANTASY 1, 2, 4, 6, AND 7 NUFF SAID (Mainly FF4,6, and 7) Oh yes, and if you like RPG character customization a lot (customization NOT character creation) try out FF 3 and FF5. For Gameplay and not story as much, play Dissidia and Dissidia Duodecim

A lot of people will tell you to start with VII, if you can get your hands on it. It was my first FF, so I recommend it. It's an excellent game

Final Fantasy XII and XIII were pretty good, in my opinion. Final Fantasy X was boss. You could go to GameStop, and buy them there. X and XII are for PS2, so you can find them from 5-10 dollars. I got FFX $8, FXII for $25 (bought new) FF XIII will cost a bit more, since it's for PS3. I think it'll cost at least 20, used.

Also, FF VII seems really great.

Final fantasy VII is kinda easy and it has a great story! If you don't like turn base then try out Crisis Core for PSP it is fun and has an awesome story, that doesn't require much of FFVII to understand. That's just my opinion. it seems to have a whole lot of hype but I love it.

I actually have Dissidia Duodecim and I love it, I want to know more about the characters so that's also why i want to get into final fantasy games ha. I love the music of the games so i'm going to get theatrhythm. i'v heard XIII wasn't good? And I thought about gettting crisis core but I think I should play VII first?

Hm...

If you want a more classic example, go with IV. It's a prime example of 'Amazing for its time' and ot still has a lot of charm. You've got plenty of versions to choose from

VI is, in my opinion, the best, it's very customizeable and not too hard, so that might be a good place to start.

VII is a good if you want to see what the hype is about, but be warned that it doesn't live up to the hype with most people. Alos might not have the best pacing for a beginner

IX is fairly unique to the series. It probably has the deepest plot, dealing with complex themes constantly. It might be a tad complex for a beginner though

X is the first FF to exist by modern standards. It's pretty rough around the edges, but all around solid. It's a lot more cinematic, so you might enjoy the story more

XII has a much more realistic, political take on FF. It's part of the Ivalice Alliance, an entirely separate branch of the FF series. If you enjoy a more grounded approach to fantasy, this might be a good place to start

XIII largely plays itself, and is the most story driven and cinematic game in the series so far. If You're really just playing for story, this might be a good place to start, but be warned that it won't do much to prepare you for other FF games; it's VERY different.

I DO NOT recommend starting with I, II, III, V, or VIII. These are all either a lot more technical, or have higher difficulty, than the other games, additionally, for one reason or another, the plot ends up taking a back seat.

Also, XI and XIV are special cases, as they are MMORPGs

If you plan to play many FF games, and/or don't want spoilers... do NOT play Dissidia. They throw around spoilers like there's nothing. In the first few cutscenes, you'll learn about the final moments of MOST of the games. Beyond that, most of the characters are badly misinterpreted, giving the wrong impression of the bulk of the cast. It's best to go into those games with a good deal of prior knowledge (There are a lot of inside jokes you won't get otherwise :P)

But yeah, on a personal level, I highly recommend VI. In my opinion it is the culmination of all that is great in FF, and currently holds the title of being the first of just three games I have played that nearly brought me to tears.

Is there a Final Fantasy VI on playstation 1 or 2?

I honestly have barely touched the story to Dissidia Iv just been doing arcade and battle mode :) hahah

Start with the best one, Final Fantasy VII, pure epicness and has Sephiroth the most memorable villain in the series

As many people said FINAL FANTASTY VII and everything before 10.

Words can't describe FFVII.

FFX is okay but not great. Some characters get annoying. In my opinion KHI is better than FFX.

Final Fantasy I,2,4,7,8,10,13, and Dissidia Duodecim.

Also, with VII, i mean all of them! :P

XIII, VII, Dissidia 012, VIII

What about all the non numbered titles?

I started out with VII back in the day. Square Enix has just re-released it on their web-site. I highly recommend it.

This version comes with achievements and an option to boost your characters stats if you find yourself stuck.

I think its a great place to start.

final fantasy VII and ffVIII

I have both CD and digital copies(I'm hardcore like that lol) Either way is fine. You'll still own it if you download it from Square Enix you'll have the rights to download it and play it as much as you like. But I will admit it just doesn't beat having the shiny game case in your hand. :P

Is there a Final Fantasy VI on playstation 1 or 2?

Yes, there is a PS1 remake. There is also a GBA one. The PS1 remake can be bought online for the PS3 and PSP

What about all the non numbered titles?

Crystal Chronicles for the Gamecube is a fun little action game, and Crystal Bearers for the Wii was pretty fun, if short. If you like strategy games, the tactics series has some brilliant stories (war of the Lions, a remake for the PSP is fantastic)

I'd be wary of most spin off titles though. The only proper FF spin off I can recommend is Crisis Core, and even then, the gameplay is kind of meh and repetitive. Cutscenes are brilliant however, and it gets ridiculously sad by the end.

(Seriously, I love Aerith in that game)

But be wary of things like Dirge of Cerberus.

And I guess it goes without saying not to start with a sequel.

Are you sure? It can get pretty pricey, and you'll never find as good of a deal as ten bucks on the PSN

But yeah, the more I think about it, I think you should get VI. It's a perfect starting point; from there you can literally go into any FF, because this is the sweet spot that has right in the middle of all the changes that happened over the years, it has something in common with every game.

Here:

if you're getting anything off Ebay, I suggest this. It's fairly cheap, and you get TWO great FF games (Though I've heard the PS1 translation of V isn't the greatest)

I'v heard that VIII is not very good

Id say it was just a different flavor. The story just didnt appeal to me personally. Give it a go by all means.
