October 25, 201213 yr I'm playing V at the moment and I love it, the story is great and the battle system is the best FF battle system I've played so far. V is one of my favorite but personally I love all Final Fantasy games. (Except for II)
October 25, 201213 yr I agree with V being underrated (dat Gilgamesh and Clash on the Big Bridge). However, I believe the most underrated Final Fantasy would be FFII. The tragic story, the fact that pretty much 75% of the world population dies by the end of the game, music, the innovative stats system that's terribly broken to the point that hitting your own party members ends up being the best grinding tool. Plus, the fact that you literally go through hell in the end just sells it for me. lol EDIT: Oh, and FFIII for sure needs more love. At least for and Boundless Ocean. Oh, and for inventing the job change system. Edited October 25, 201213 yr by JillSandwich93
October 25, 201213 yr I've played XII, but not V. XII is one of my favorites, along with VII, and.. VIII and IX... and X... and uh, yeah, just about all the one's I've played. I've gotten so much enjoyment out of all of them (except maybe FF1)
October 25, 201213 yr Popular Post XII get's so much slack for being one of the later games in the series. It falls into that "everything after ( x ) title is crap" people whine about. To me, XII was the first truly good FF since VI. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE VIII and IX, but they were both kind of mediocre story wise and focused heavily on a love story. Both villains were also 'evil' but in a way that still made you kind of like them because you can almost understand WHY they were that way. Vayne Solidor is just a dick. He's a sadist evil bastard and I feel righteous every time I kill him. He's the first viliain since Kefka were I finished the game solely so I could destroy him. But you know what? I love Kefka and Vayne for that reason; they truly fulfill their roles AS the majour bad guy. XII also had a complex cast of characters that all had so many layers to them; and each were explored in the game. There was no: This character is deep because of the way they stare away from the camera and be gloomy all the time. Each and every one of them had background and interesting stories that promoted their character types. Even Vaan has grown on me. He's finally a 17 yr old that ACTS like a 17 yr old: Somewhat dreamy and spacey, just wanting to do what they want and not being told what to do and also a bit naive when it comes to the rest of the world. People seem to hate on him for these traits, but I find it makes him a wonderful character. The fact that he has the capacity to be angry and blame Basch, but also is able to confront the situation and learn to hold his feelings aside to get through the situation (and eventually hear Basch out and actually understand who Basch is as a person and forgive him) is something I find they tried to get Hope to do, but Hope failed miserably at it. I could write a thesis paper on everything about XII I like, but I don't think anyone has the time. TL,DR; XII is complex and a return to actually villainous villains. Vaan acts his age. Hope's anger at Snow is just a badly done version of Vaan and Basch. Edited October 25, 201213 yr by Kirux
October 25, 201213 yr XII is the best Final Fantasy ever. True, it can play itself, but not well. That makes it fun to play. You wait until the characters need your help or you take over at the beginning. I appreciated Vaan better in XII after I played Dissidia and got to thinking it was cool and then I played with him in my party always. He's the best character in the game and he's not even using the Zodiac Spear. I don't need to talk about why Basch is cool because I sing his praises all the time. Vayne is also a good and realistic good guy. He kills people, but has the law completely on his side. That's what makes him cool. I've never played V, but there's one reason I know it's awesome: GILGAMESH!
October 25, 201213 yr Gilgamesh is an enemy you fight FOUR TIMES. Regardless, I love him. There were also a few VERY tragic moments I'm terms of death. Exdeath didn't ONLY kill a party member... And yes, the battle system is great, there are TONS of jobs to master. Back to Gilgamesh, I can remember a few of his comedic lines. "IT'S GILGAMESH MORPHING TIME." "Now let's see what Excalibur can REALLY do! *attacks for 34 dmg*" "Now let's fight like men! And ladies! And ladies who dress like men!"
October 25, 201213 yr FF V is pretty much the best final fantasy so far. It was fun, story was intresting, very innovative bosses, it was probably the hardest FF game so far. Also: ExDeath is just badass
October 25, 201213 yr I've played XII, but gave up after getting lost in that desert area in the begining of the game for 2hrs... orz but I watched my brother play it, and I rather enjoyed the storyline.
October 25, 201213 yr Final Fantasy VII is underrated. Snow, FFVII is one of the most popular title in the entire franchise. If anything it is overrted by many due to nostalgia and the fact it was the first to have 3D modeling.

October 25, 201212 yr Also, isn't overrated/underrated a matter of opinion? So I guess I would say "FFVII is underrated imo" Yes, that is more of an expression of a personal opinion and that would be more acceptable.
October 25, 201212 yr That's right the FF V is underrated, it has so many epic moments, a fun job sistem, moogles and dragons. and for XII, well I have to admit that I loved the battle system, I lost interest in the story at half of the game but I loved battles in real time.
October 26, 201212 yr V took III's job system and made it 20 percent cooler. It's not something you play for the story, you play it for the gameplay. The reason I liked it, though, could just be because it was a novelty for me. After years of espers, materia, junctioning and sphere grids, V's job system was a breath of fresh air. X-2 also had an extensive job system, but it's not as customizable or intensive as V's, and I'm a sucker for customization. It's also difficult if you don't know what you're doing, but it's a pre-VI FF game, so that's expected. I don't have an opinion on XII since I haven't played it, but just from what I've seen, it's responsible for some pretty... heated debates, even by FF fanbase standards.

That;s your interpretation of Vayne? His goal s to free humanity from oppressive gods. sure, he does bad stuff, but you can't really say he doesn't have a good motivation...
October 26, 201212 yr So basically I'm the only one who hates Gilgamesh and anything to do with him p.s. mimes suck and dualcast is overrated, go for freelancers w/ ribbons instead Edited October 26, 201212 yr by Ultima Spark

That's the only part of my post you're commenting on? ;P He kills his own father and brothers in order to ascend to power. He has judges killed off who are against him only to protect Larsa. Hell, he'd have kill off Larsa if he had the chance. 'Good motivations' are not an excuse for doing bad things, especially since 'good motivations' are subject to opinion.

It bothers me when people say the Organization is a good group and Sora is a mass murderer because they had 'good intentions'But you can't really say he's just being a dick for the sake of being a dick. As far as HE'S concerned, he has a good otivation, and he is arguably working towards more good than the main characters for the bulk of the game

October 27, 201212 yr Author I never said he was a dick for being a dick's sake. He's a dick for killing everyone. You implied as much by saying he's an actually villainous villain, and that you feel righteous every time you kill himHe's not really villainous, more antagonistic. I mean, you can't say that HIM killing stuff automatically makes him villainous, our heroes carve a path of blood through the adventure, and that includes murdering innocent and even helpful adventurers if you want to unlock all of the enemy bios and such

He's a dick for killing everyone. The wonderful thing about Vayne is that he has motivations and goals that are understandable, relatable, and perhaps sympathetic to the player, so he works as a character. However, he also goes about pursuing these goals in an underhanded, dastardly, and unsympathetic fashion that the player wants to defeat him for, so he also works as a villain.
October 27, 201212 yr You implied as much by saying he's an actually villainous villain, and that you feel righteous every time you kill him He's not really villainous, more antagonistic. I mean, you can't say that HIM killing stuff automatically makes him villainous, our heroes carve a path of blood through the adventure, and that includes murdering innocent and even helpful adventurers if you want to unlock all of the enemy bios and such He is conniving, methodical, cold, and calculated about his killing of his own family. He uses his natural charisma and intelligence to win people over and get the to do as he sees fit. He ordered the attack on a refugee camp, killing many innocent civilians. He is a villain plain and simple. He does amazingly treacherous and bad things for his own personal satisfaction of 'breaking free of the gods.' He is not a good man. He is a villain. His mind set is truly villainous and if he wore funny clothes, was a psychopath instead of a sociopath, and cackled he could be Kefka. There are no redeeming qualities of Vayne Solidor his actions are not noble. The goal he is striving for in NO way justifies the means he used, and I love defeating him. That is my opinion. Even though he is an evil bastard, I *love* that about him. He is a true villain that inspires me to beat the game just to put an end to him and for that purpose he is brilliant. I will not change my mind no matter how you try to present it to me.
