Nintendo DS is the best-selling video game platform

Featured Replies

Wow. That's impressive. congrats to the DS on that.

is it because the DS is not only a good, reliable platform but also costs lesser?

The DS just barely sold more units than the PS2, but that's still impressive.

It was expected

PS2 (or more PS platforms) are for gamers

DS is a general thing, marketed at every age and gender group.

I'm gonna make Sega sell the Dreamcast game and it will sell over 500 million >:DD But congrats to the DS, pretty intense considering it's a handheld.

Whatttttt...........How could this happen? D:

For the record, it did indeed print money.

Well this is sudden. I never noticed how popular the DS was.

I see kids with a DS everywhere, almost all of my little cousins have a DS (With a Mario game).

Go Ds! and it's still coming out with new games too!. What the heck psp?!

 Where I live anyway  :P

Lol just imagine what the sales would have been if Nintendo would have never split and created Sony, the DS would probably have like, 250 million units sold by now because there'd be no Sony to compete with.

The Nintendo DS has finally surpassed the PlayStation 2 and is now the best-selling video game platform. The Nintendo DS has sold 153.69 million units, while the PlayStation 2 has sold 153.68 million units. The Nintendo DS outsold the PlayStation 2 globally from the week ending December 8th. Let’s see if it can retain its position as the best-selling platform worldwide. Wow, congrats for the DS for surpassing the PS2 in terms of the best platform. Never thought it would happen,. But it seemed pretty obvious that it would likely to surpass the PS2 from the direction it was headed.

best SELLING platform, not best platform, PS2 is way better

Go Ds! and it's still coming out with new games too!. What the heck psp?!

they are still making DS games because the 3DS isn't really an upgrade like the PSVita is compared to the PSP

Wow, that's pretty cool. Congrats to the ds.

I never thought this would happen. Like EVER! it's really impressive, gratz DS! You made me proud today

Boo!

This is what you get when you make four models.....

No surprise there. The Nintendo DS is the best handheld system that has ever came into to this world.

That is actually remarkable, but I think I enjoy more the PS, my little old silver PS2... all mine...

I have them too and would count myself as a gamer but the DS systems (and wii) are directed primarily at casual gamers whereas Microsoft and Sony market their consoles towards hardcore gamers. Hence why the ds has games with short levels (play on the go quickly), fitness games, brain training, cookery etc. Obviously some great games loved by addictive and casual gamers are on the DS system, but their main draw for many family's who aren't buyng a console for platform specific games go for nintendos systems because they market towards all ages, casual gamers (which increases their potential customers from just dedicated gamers to elderly, health conscious, keep fit, bored traveling employees, young traditional girls etc)

they are good consoles but appeal to a wider audience.
