Reading over the "Sora's mom" thread got me thinking about something. I think there's a possibility Riku could be orphaned.

 

Although family isn't a big part of Kingdom Hearts in general, we've gotten subtle hints here & there on family. Here's what we know so far:

 

Sora's mom calling him for dinner in KH1 = Sora's mom confirmed

Riku mentioning Sora's dad in BBS = Sora's dad confirmed

Sora mentioning the Mayor adopting Kairi in KH1 = Kairi's adoptive parent confirmed

Kairi's grandmother in KH1 = Kairi's grandmother confirmed

 

Riku: Zero reference to any existing family member.

 

Him being an orphan could further explain his attitude throughout KH1, like how he has to be better than everyone else in every single aspect. Him desperately wanting to leave the island and wanting to discover other places, possibly because he wanted to run away from his lonely existence (as far as family life is concerned.)

 

Not that this would have anything to do with the story, I just figured maybe it's a possibility.

A lot of character's have no reference. The only time we hear from Sora's mom is in kh1 and we only see Kairi's grandmother rarely. Other than that the family references are very low. He could be an orphan, he could not. Unless Nomura has a small thing in one of the future games referencing Riku's parents, if has any, we won't know for sure. I personally think he has a family though. "We may never see our parents again" personally leads me to believe he does have parents.

That very well could be the case, but I doubt it. I feel like because family isn't that important in KH, Riku's parents were never mentioned even if they were probably around. 

 

And this may be looking too into it but in KH1 when Destiny Islands falls to darkness Riku says something to Sora along the lines of  "We may never see our parents again" implying that he and Sora both have parents. Just food for thought of course.

Well Riku could have parent but they're just never mentioned, plus i highly doubt riku could be an orphan but it really wouldnt matter

Besides,Sora's parents never gave a crap about their son being lost for a WHOLE YEAR and then they allowed him again to go away for the mark of mastery test.It's either one of those:

 

1Sora is making up the fact that his parents are alive and he's actually orphan.

 

OR

 

2Kairi has a Ditto that transformed to look like Sora for an entire year to cover his absense

 

I know this is hiliarious but can you come up with an explanation????

 

At least Riku went to Destiny Islands multiple times when he was working with Ansem the Wise after CoM.But Sora couldn't come back until he awakened from his slumber in Twilight Town

 

Note:Riku mentioned his parents once when he stepped to the darkness in KH1(Yeah he said "our parents" to Sora but I think that counts) and I think he have mentioned it sometime later abut I can't remember

Aw man, you beat me to it!  This was exactly what I was going to point out.  Riku does make a reference to "our parents," which I think must've included him.  If only Sora's parents were in the picture, I would've thought he'd say, "your parents" instead.

I'm surprised Kairi hasn't been mentioned since she's the only one of the trio that can probably be legitimately called an orphan (her grandmother doesn't count). Now her parents have never once been mentioned. Either way she was separated from her real family a long time ago and has probably been adopted, or is a least being taken care of. If we're to go by that line in KH1 then by the mayor/chief.

 

Then there's Ienzo who was an orphan too. What's up with RG and parents? lol.      

Hmm. Nice story. If that's the case, then Riku could be the new (either Harry Potter or Naruto Uzumaki.) Sorry to change the subject, but the two are similar in a way-

• Parents were killed when they were just a year old, & were orphans ever since.
• Resemble their fathers, but have their mother's personality.

Got it. Anyway, so, i wonder maybe Riku's parents were there, but they were never close with him, maybe thats why we never see him talking about them or being with them.
