"PS4 and next Xbox games will retail at $70, ten dollars more than current gen games", said Wedbush Securities Research Analyst Michael Pachter during a panel at SXSW.

The news was tweeted this afternoon by Spike and GamesTrailers Host Geoff Keighley. This comes after Sony clarified the price point of PS4 games when SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton explained that Sony, "will offer games with prices ranging from $0.99 to the more traditional $60 range with the ability for players to sample games before theybuy." It's important to note that Tretton's quote never gives a hard number, like a MSRP of $59.99, etc., which leaves room for interpretation of what Sony's view of a "traditional $60 range" might actually be.

As much as it pains me to say this, this will probably most likely happen. I remember back when new PS2 titles were 49.99. Now with this gen it's a standard 59.99. So 69.99 for next gen games? It just seems more likely.

The price of games are becoming too high! They wonder why video games aren't selling like they used to, that's because you make them so damn expensive! Pardon my French.

Even Wii U games now are far more expensive than Wii titles were when they first were released.

 

PS3 games here in Ireland launched at €70 in a lot of places but gradually reduced and now they range from around €35-€60. So even if games are going to cost $70 on the PS4 and Xbox WhateverIt'llBeCalled I can't imagine they'll be that price for too long.

 

Even so, that is a ridiculous price for a game and I bet the console won't be nice on the wallet either...

 

Edit: I never read above where it said that Michael Pachter said this. That guy talks so much BS it's ridiculous. I ain't buying his so called analysis.

Be true, be true, be trueee Omg x3 oh and I almost forgot to put that A while back they said that games would eventually cost 100 each. So 70 is better So that's why im hoping its true .-. but It's still kinda crappy that theyre gonna be so expensive :L

Here in Australia, we pay more than that for PS3 and 360 games at launch....

The title's kinda misleading, made me think the consoles themselves were only $70.

 

However, $70 for a game? That's a lot...

I was confused by that title too. I saw it and immediately though "lulz no". Fixed it.

 

Anyway, I could definitely see the games getting more expensive. I really hope they don't ($60 is steep enough), but I wouldn't doubt that it might happen.

Hope it's not true. I don't want to pay that much for a single game.
