I'm seriously tired of all the people saying Final fantasy VII is "overatted" just because it's the most popular Final fantasy game in the series. If it wasn't for FF VII (and ocarina of Time) gaming wouldn't be what it is today. the game CHANGED gaming and has made it a lot more popular today. If it wasn't for that and OoT JRPG's wouldn't be as popular as they have gotten now. Whoever calls Final fantasy VII "overatted" is just jealous of its success and is proabably tired of all the "fanboys" talking about it. Jeez, you don't see people calling Paper Mario: TTYD, Xenoblade Chronicles, or Final fantasy X overatted and they are really popular games that people constantly talk about.

I think it's overrated not because I'm jealous of it's success but just because I didn't like it. That's just my opinion. You can't say someone is jealous of the success because they say the game is overrated. 

It's an ok game and is vastly overrated. In my opinion there are better Final Fantasy's out there. I am not jealous of its success but I am tired of people talking about it and talking bad about those who don't consider it the best. Everyone has their own favourite game and ok a lot of people love FF7 but if one doesn't like it and think it's overrated then it's their opinion. I like IX the best, is it overrated? No. Would people disagree with me and say it is? More than likely. I don't care it's my taste. Don't get annoyed at people who "hate" on FF7 because it's successful, if someone doesn't like it and they call it overrated, so what? That's just their opinion

 

I have heard people say Xenoblade Chronicles is overrated and the same goes for The Last Story even if I personally find them fantastic games I don't badmouth others for thinking that way towards a game.

I certainly respect it's contribution to gaming. I also believe that it has an amazing story, and very in-depth characters. When people say that it's an amazing game, they aren't lying. When people say it's one of or is the best Final Fantasy, they're not lying. It deserves the love it gets.

 

To a point.

 

When people are raving lunatics about it, proclaiming it as the best thing ever, swearing by it, washing its feet, worshipping it... then you get into the overblown territory. Putting it at number one is going overboard. Just because something broke new ground, doesn't automatically make it the best thing since sliced bread.

Thing is, everything you said is independent of FFVII's actual quality.  I feel bad for comparing FFVII to Twilight, but Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey are proof something can be insanely popular and worshiped while sucking something fierce.  I loves me some FFVII, but not everyone is going to like the same thing.  I never got interested in Marvel, for instance, though I respect its popularity despite the rabid fans I guarantee are out there.  I hate calling anything "overrated" because it seems to be a lazy term complainers use when a whole ton of people like something they don't.  Anything popular can be called "overrated" because when something attracts enough fans, there will always be people baffled as to how it got that way because they can't see the appeal.  Thus, they'll dismiss it as "overrated."

My personal favorite is FF IX. I prefer it much more than VII, but its still a good game.

it's a good game, and I agree that FVII is the standar for all the games that were released after it, but meh I like better the FFIX and VI

Anyone will throw stones at someone if they are on top. It is just human nature if something is respected by so many it is only natural to be more of a critic then if you were just critiquing something backwater. However what makes FFVII ground breaking is how it changed the way of gaming. It has done a lot for JRPG's.

Yet 

People are allowed to have their opinion, but please don't try to start a fight. It is fans who choose and society is going to have fans of everything that is why media is out there that is why people produce, buy, and value products. 

What matters is the artist, producer, developer, manufacturer, translators, editors, voice actors, designers, etc. and especially the fans that make a diamond not just a stone, but a gem or jewel.

I agree that Final Fantasy VII isn't overrated.  I think for a game that popular it's bound to have more fans, but by the same token have more haters as well.  We just get to see a lot of the haters say, "FF VII is overrated" just because they didn't see anything they liked about it.  Everyone's going to have an opinion on what's good or not because we have different tastes, but to say that FF VII is overrated because everyone else likes it and they didn't isn't correct.

 

As a side note, I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy VII, and definitely don't think it's overrated.  Sure, it's not my favorite FF, but it is one of them.
