Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past 2

Posted
Nintendo are working on a spiritual successor to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for Nintendo 3DS, they announced this morning. The new game will take place in the same world, but will feature an original story and new dungeons. The new game will feature a top-down view, but will have height that makes use of the stereoscopic 3D on the 3DS. The game will be available this year.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I never played Link to the Past, but this new game looks very cool.

Awesome! So glad they finally got around to showing off the new Zelda game!

Why 2D :( I mean i love 2D games but it's nintendo 3ds and this is first loz game on it (ocarina of time doesn't count) so i think it should have been 3D

I finally have a good reason to buy a 3DS

I love how you can turn into a creepy drawing, this game is gonna be awesome

I've only played a little bit of A Link to the Past but this looks pretty neat, if it's a Zelda game then it definitely has my money haha ^o^ I'm totally buying this when it comes out!~

Wouldn't Four Swords technically be "Link to the Past 2"?Oh well; not like I mean to complain. I love how they reused the sound effect from LttP.Gaaaaahhhh I need a 3DS.

I'm actually really disappointed.I was expecting a 3D zelda game like Ocarina of Time to be the 3DS zelda game. They work so much better than the 2D ones. Not to mention, A Link to the Past is the only Zelda game I can't bring myself to play because it's so boring. The rest of the ones I haven't beaten are because they're too hard, but every time I try to play a link to the past, I get zelda out of the castle and I'm about to fall asleep.I guess I'll have to play it now if I'm going to get this one. Although oracle of ages/seasons were kind of ALttP 2 and 3, and Link's Awakening was basically ALttP 4 haha

I don't get why you guys don't like it as much. A remake? Sure it's cool, but can't you play the original, even if you can't play it on the go? Remaking Sounds. New Dungeons, A NEW MECHANIC!? I for one love this. The drawing will definitely be used against the final boss. And it will let you travel in new ways! Just hope the enemies are smarter like in skyward sword.

I cannot wait for this, seriously. LttP is my all time FAVORITE Zelda game. I play that game once a year, and it looks like I'll be doing my yearly play through around this Holiday!

For al dem true gamers out there, this is just wonderfull news. Link to the Past was and still is probably one of the best videogames ever. And it was huge surprise for me to find out Nintendo was developing a sequel. I actually came across the news by accident.

Still hoping a 3D remake of Majora's Mask is coming too, that would make it complete in my book.

it is in 3D, the camera angle is just "up"

Really? If that's the case Im gonna love it :D

This is brilliant news!  I cannot wait for this game to come out!  I've never completed A Link to the Past (got rid of it before I had the chance, unfortunately), so I'm very eager to do so on the 3DS.  It's a shame we'll have to wait at least a year for its release.

So excited! This is my favorite Zelda game! 8D

Update:

The upcoming successor to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on the Nintendo 3DS will bring back the Light and Dark Worlds, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has confirmed in an interview with CNET. Additionally, Aonuma also shares the influence Ocarina of Time has had. Link’s ability to turn himself into a wall painting is inspired by Ocarina, according to Aonuma. In that game’s Forest Temple dungeon, Link encounters a Phantom Ganon who can jump between six identical paintings hung around the room. Aonuma wondered, “What if Link could have the same power?”

Some new rumours have appeared for the game:

1. The game, while set in the world of A Link to the Past, does not take place right after the events of its predecessor Some time has passed since Ganon’s defeat in the Dark World. Hyrule is in a period of rebuilding and prominence when a new threat rises.
2. The villain is not Ganondorf or Vaati. There an entirely new foe to the series.
3. At this time the game is much more in depth than the past couple of handheld Zelda titles. There are at least 6 dungeons to overcome. Link will not be returning to any of the dungeons like the developers played with in Skyward Sword. The game is more traditional with the Zelda formula.
4. Unlike its predecessor, there will be some focus on the franchise’s races via towns and etc. No details were provided on where their homes would be or how they would be situated. This may be interesting to see since the game is set in the same overworld as A Link to the Past.
5. The Dark World exists, but not in the same manner. Link’s wish at the end of the first game changed the world. The Dark World we will see is a similar albeit new form. It was returned to the Golden Land for a brief period. Evil beings still searched for it to acquire the Triforce.
6. Link is cursed, which is how he learns the weird abilities we saw in the reveal trailer.
7. Zelda plays a limited role. Nothing like what we saw in Spirit Tracks.
8. The game has some kind of multi-player.
