Am I the only one who enjoyed this game?

Posted

Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed Re:Coded. Most people seem to forget that it was originally a Japanese cell phone game. Of course the storyline won't be complex. The gameplay's great though, doesn't that count for anything? This is by far the most underrated KH game out there, and it kinda saddens me to see all the hate it gets. So, who else here enjoyed it?

I thought Re:Coded was a great refresher and it did the command menu justice.  I also like how it took the best things out of Days and left the rest where they belonged, in the trash.  Re:Coded didn't feel like chores, which was something I felt during Days.  The only thing that kept driving me to keep playing Days was it's story.

Of course I enjoyed it, but it's not like it's my favourite or anything. I played it for the sake of playing it just because it was kingdom hearts, and that's it. I don't hate it but again, it's not my favourite and people shouldn't have expected it to deliver an amazing storyline or large contribution to the series.

For someone who sets their standards way too high for cell-phone games then of course they'll be disappointed, but if you play it KNOWING what you're getting into then it's a good, relaxing game.

I still like it. The story, I thought, was actually very well done, for exactly the reason that it's not over complicated. The mystery of the journal was compelling, I liked that the importance of the Disney characters in it, and I think there were more than a few good reveals and surprises that made the going good.

The gameplay was great. I loved that they made a game where you couldn't just smash X all the time, and it made you adapt to circumstances and made you think. The Hollow Bastion level was particularly well done: it was neat to see what you could do without the keyblade, and having to direct Donald and Goofy to bail you out.

Also, the keyblades in this game are the most useful in the series, actually effecting how you fight, rather than just giving you stat boosts.

I love Re:Coded. I think it's super fun. I mainly play games for gameplay. Not story.

I loved the gameplay. It made it worth it despite the story not being the strongest point . Overall I enjoyed it greatly.

Re:coded is a very fun game. I really enjoyed the gameplay, and there's nothing wrong with a simple story.

(Critical Level 1 was annoyingly hard though. >_< But I digress)

Yes.

I haven't played it since I don't see the point in buying in when I've heard the story isn't good.  Probably when it's dirt cheap I'd pick up but right now I know all I need to know from it.  I'd probably enjoy the gameplay since I play for the gameplay as well the story, but I don't see the point in dropping money for it now when I need to buy some light bulbs.  And crack.

I didnt like it when i first played it when it came out, but i just tried it again and i like it

I like Re:Coded! Doesn't have the best story, but even that one is good, and the gameplay is really good.

Its the only game in the series I haven't played, I have no first-bias :<

My main gripe was it, was the world's were too big and too easy to get lost in and never be able to get past(IM LOOKING AT YOU OLYMPUS COLISEUM!!!!!!!!!!!!) I liked the battle system a bit, but i didnt like the level up system. I just couldnt get into it. :|

I had a lot of fun playing Coded.  I wouldn't mind replaying it.  I love puzzle games and, although it's no where near Professor Layton, it was fun to have puzzles mixed in with the usual KH style gameplay.  I also liked how every boss battle was completely different.  You never knew what to expect next so it made each one memorable.  I just wish it had more to the story than it did.

At least you gave reasons other than "The story wasn't complex"... That's the whole reason why I hate it when this game gets hate, it's always the same excuse, and people don't even know the reason behind it.

I loved Re:coded. I think it has some of the best gameplay in the series.

Your welcome Axel. :)

But yeah, i just plain didnt like it from the start. I gave it a chance, and i ended up disliking it. :| Sorry. This is why i hope that either:

It becomes a movie in KH 2.5

Or

It's replaced with a movie/playable game for DDD instead.

And about what you said that "you hate when this game gets hate, its always the same excuse" i feel the EXACT SAME WAY with people about XIII. Few people hate it for other legit reasons other then the linearity.

Seeing as how we say Re:Coded at the end of 1.5's credits, I think it's safe to say that DDD won't replace it. I doubt it'd just be in movie form, since the story was basic. I'm honestly hoping for a playable version. Who knows, they might update it a bit, too!

Yeah, I got the idea. xD

While I do play games for the storyline, I didn't hate Re:Coded. I honestly don't hate any KH game. I didn't like Re:Coded's gameplay at all, but it's not like I had high expectations for a game that was originally for a mobile phone. The amount of hate this game gets really does sadden me.

I liked it a lot. It wasn't really anything new, and the story wasn't exactly it's focal point (As far as I can tell, it's just a refresher of what happened previously), but it played well enough. I really liked the varied play styles it threw in, like turn-based battles in the Coliseum (With Cloud to boot!), arcade-style shooting in Wonderland, and platforming in Hollow Bastion.

I enjoyed it too. I think the only reason it got so much hate is because it didn't bring anything new or memorable to the playing field. It felt like a warmed over hybrid between Days and birth by sleep. I don't like the BBS command system thaaaaat much the thing that really made it amazing was the fast and flashy command styles that were similar to drive forms. Every game since BBS that has used this battle system has dropped that mechanic and I just don't understand.

read the tittle of this thread and already knew it was about Re:coded.  Yes I liked this game as well I hope they make it playable in 2.5 but that probably won't happen but oh well

It's not that the story wasn't complex, it's that its story doesn't really progress the KH plot at all. ( exception of the secret ending )

I actually think it will. They couldn't really make a good movie out of this one since it's short on cutscenes, so gameplay would be the best choice. It'd probably ditch the Avatar Menu, but I wouldn't know for sure since I don't have a PS3 yet and don't know if that'd work well on it.

They took those out so each game's gameplay would be fresh. The Command Style's were awesome though, it'd be cool if they made some sort of return in KHIII. Maybe if Terra, Aqua, or Ven are playable, they could have those instead of Drive Forms.

Of course not. Re:coded is great. Loved the different world/different gameplay style mechanic, it made the game feel really fresh.
