no, this is not a rant on video games that people consider overrated.

This is a rant about the word overrated and how it is used with video games. People love to use this word for things that are popular, that they personally do not like. They don't say "oh its my opinion but yours is cool too", they just flat out think anyone who plays these games are obsessed fanboys who are blinded by nostalgia. A few examples are goldeneye 007,ocarina of time, final fantasy 7, and call of duty. if you type any of these titles into your google search bar, you should expect the words "is overrated" to follow the title in the search suggestions. If people like these games, and you don't, then fine. But if you're rude to people about it then just stfu and go away. It seems people hate these games strictly because they're popular, and try to be as dickish as possible to the people who like them. I can't count how many times i've heard "ff7 fanboys" on the internet so far, There are many more haters of these games than there are fanboys. Seriously, i just get fed up with these youtube videos of these games that say how horrible they are with no evidence to back themselves up with. They just firetrucking scream overrated and fanboy over and over. I'm just sick of the internets shit.overrated is terrible word for terrible people. Don't hate on something simply because it does not appeal to YOU,because it will likely offend someone else who does like it.

My friend hates Assassin's Creed. He didn't give any reason besides "it's totally overrated".

 

He also hates every modern Sonic character besides Big

I'm very glad "overrated" has lost all meaning for someone else out there.  You're absolutely right.  It's a go-to term for anything popular that someone dislikes for whatever reason, like it's a measure of the quality of the work itself instead of peoples' reactions to it.

So there's the sort of people who dislike a game (and countless other stuff), because it is overrated and those who dislike a game which is popular and cause they dislike it, consider it as overrated. Sure.

Common sense would suggest you stay away from stuff you hate/dislike and stfu, to not waste your time on it, but well, if you don't have common sense, then that won't work. same as with any other game, i fail to see many flaws at all with kh2, but because I like the game immensely and I want to share my love for it, that makes me bad. dont go out of your way to piss off people who like a game

I don't think you even understood what I just said. I never pointed fingers, I even said that the amount of fanboys is decently small compared to the regular fans. It's the ones who spout worship about the game that annoy me. I never said you were a fanboy, either. I see a lot of flaws with FF7, some might not. It's all personal preference. I'm also more critical with forms of media, mostly because it's an industry I plan to get into.

not in your opinion, but what's your favorite game of all time? i could say that is wrong and it's not by any means one of the best of its genre. some People just speak their opinions a bit louder and if they think ff7 is the best game ever, so be it. I don't think that about ff7, but others do.

and we go over the top and do research about kingdom hearts. And when you get a new game you've been anticipating for a very long time, you will usually feel like nothing else matters besides playing the firetruck out of that game. these people are the ones who are still halfway through ff7 and are loving it.

i totally agree, most of the haters haven't even played the games. they take what they hear from a bad review

I don't think you understand exactly what I mean. I'm sick of having this argument so I'm just going to stop, but there ARE extremists, and they ARE annoying. You know, to be honest, I hate the KH fanbase outside of KH13, and just about all other fanbases I associate myself with.

You literally just made fun of FFVI fans. You're being hypocritical. You say you hate it when I call some people (SOME, not all fans) FFVII fanboys, but always generalize people who like FFVI more than VII to be exactly what I think of the few FFVII fanboys. I dislike Sephiroth but find Kefka to be a great villain, by your standards I must be some ignorant, horrible fanboy then.
