I Have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Posted

So I've been selve diagnosed with OCD. It's totally real, I have all the signs of it, I've talked to my mom about it, it runs in the family, I'm confirmed to have it, every sign every thought every compulsion is real and has been apparent since a child but only relized it this past summer . So does anyone else have it? I made this topic cause I knew I could trust everyone here, I trust that you guys are cool about it. I'm open to talking about it with you guys, don't look at me any different.. I'm the same person I was since I joined in 2009

How are you the same person you were in 2009?

What story?

You just said you've been here longer and have gone through more changes. I've been here shorter meaning I've have less time to change I guess, but people are different, physically I'm not the same, mentally it's pretty much all still there, except for some things.. I haven't changed much is what I'm saying.

What story?

some horror story somebody wrote with OCD mentioned in it

Whenever I hear someone with OCD I always think of Death the Kid.

Nobody's opinion of you will change because of this!! It just means you've got more friends to talk to when things get rough. Even if you think you fit the signs, you should probably see a medical professional. If it gets in the way of normal activity, you might need some prescription medicine, and they won't give you any if you're self-diagnosed.

I've got a mild version: I check my door six times to be sure I locked, and check my drawer five times or so to make sure I've put everything away before bed, or i'll just lay there obsessing over it.

OCD's very common these days: I even check my gmail like twenty times a day, even when I know it'll be empty that particular day.

I have OCD tendencies, but I've never been diagnosed with it. Sometimes I used get an itch to do things three times, whether it be touching something as I pass by, or stepping on a particular stair step, but I've controlled them to the point that they don't really crop up much anymore. I'm not sure if people with OCD can control them, or if I was just weird and had an itch like that for no reason. My grandfather had the same thing, as well.

Ahh I see, but with me it's more major. Sometimes there are intrusive thoughts that you don't want that contols you and makes you wonder who you are. It's crazy

You mean like auditory hallucinations, where you can 'hear' people speaking to you? Or is it literally just thoughts popping into your head you don't want? Because that happens to me frequently, as well. I'm pretty sure that happens to a lot of people, though.

If it's not that big of OCD don't worry.. But if you find that it's more excessive.. Than accept it, and work on it. You'll feel better

I do.  It decided to really bad shortly after I joined.  It's still not back to normal, but it's been on the mend for almost a year.

If you truly have OCD I would suggest visiting a psychotherapist or psychologist, or basically anyone certified to help someone with a disorder like OCD. From there they can set up a treatment plan of daily activities, and possibly medications. But in my opinion either way you need someone you are willing to tell most of your life to, so they can help you out with all aspects of your disorder. Anyways even if you don't want to go to get help, it will only hurt your wallet (depending on where you go) to get a professional opinion on if you have the disorder or not.

I have it, slightly. I have Bipolar Disorder and OCD seems to be a strong symptom of it if I don't take my medications properly. Don't be ashamed of having it, almost everyone has some sort of mental or health issue; there is nothing wrong with you. Your mind just works in mysterious ways and you should be fascinated by it :)

If you do have it though, it's best to get help to control some of the compulsive symptoms so you don't make a rash decision or do anything drastic...and also get some counseling if you can to help you find ways to deal with it properly. c:

Best of luck!

I have pretty severe OCD (been medically diagnosed) and can wholeheartedly sympathize with you.  It really can affect one's life and be very difficult to live with; it's really a matter of learning how to harness and control it.  No worries, though.  It doesn't change who you are.  All that it really does is affect your outlook on matters and causes you to think differently. However, I hope that your OCD symptoms lessen and continue to improve for you and that they don't impact your life negatively.  With proper mental cognitive therapy and training, it really can get better without physicians or medication.  All the best, and, should you ever need someone to speak with concerning this, I'm always a PM away. : )
