Now THIS Is What A Final Fantasy Game Should Be

Posted

So I just got done playing the eShop demo of Bravery Default and it has EVERYTHING that you should expect from a Final Fantasy game. This game right here did everything that we should be seeing in the newer Final Fantasy games. Turn-based RPG combat, a somewhat medievel area, dungeons, random monster encounters. Yup, this feels like a throwback to the classic Final Fantasy games and I like it. I've been wanting SE to go back to this type of gameplay for the newer FF games for so long and now I have it.

Kensuke Nakahara, please oh PLEASE come and direct Final Fantasy games from now on. You have shown us that you  clearly know how to make a good Final Fantasy game.

Yeah the demo is out now. You should play it. It's like the classic FF games before the series went downhill.

That game has been out in the rest of the world for ages. North America is so behind.

I'm happy with LIGHTNING RETURNS, X/X-2 HD Remaster and FINAL FANTASY XV.

i didn't really like what I played....

Um, no it hasn't. The game has been out in Japan since 2011. And it has been out for a few weeks in Europe since December 6th 2013 and Australia on December 7th, 2013.

I haven't been playing that much of it, but I still love what I have played. Definitely lives up to the name of 'spiritual successor to 4 Heroes of Light'

I've played some of the demo. I've really enjoyed it so far. I guess it makes sense, considering the old Final Fantasy games (I-VI) are the ones I consider to be the real FF games. This is a lot like them, which I definitely like.

Not every Final Fantasy should be medieval. I embrace the steampunk/future aspects of newer games. Just wish they'd be better GAMES.

I like that Final Fantasy can be set in different universes. One can be super technological and the other medieval and I think that's what makes the magic of the series! I don't think every game should feel like Bravely Default...I think all the games of the franchise did a pretty good job!

It really looks like a FF game from what I saw.I'll definitely buy if I have a 3DS someday

How's the voice acting in the game. I'm interested in it, but from the trailers the voice acting sunds pretty sub-par, although maybe that's just in the trailers.

I will have this game and Fire Emblem soon and so excited for both :D

Isn't the demo somewhat a prequel to the main game?

Really now? I believe what Nomura's has going on for FFXV is what FF should be. Turn based combat ruined the idea of me getting Bravely Default, and it's why I dislike just about every other FF title out there aside from XIII and XIV. Turn based gameplay is a dying type and it needs to go entirely. It's boring. I want action and total control of my character in combat. Turn based gameplay even takes away from the immersion for me. If SE plans to succeed bigger than ever, they'd best start throwing away their turn based gameplay concepts. That's why I believe that not only will FFXV succeed, but it'll be the new FFVII.

I'll probably play it when it comes out in NA...probably

I've heard the English voice acting ranges from good to mediocre. Basically one of the main characters voice acting is questionable (Agnes), while the rest are pretty inoffensive. From the few trailers I've watched, I like Ringabell's voice pretty well. The game comes with the option to switch between English and Japanese voices, if you'd prefer.

Anyway, I've 100% the demo and I love what I've played so far. Apparently the main game doesn't have those fetch quest type missions and eases you in to the mechanics much better. Though to be honest, I thought it was all pretty easy to figure out, and it wasn't very hard. I really like the Brave & Default system, its an interesting twist on the turn based battle system. The music and art direction are great as well. Can't wait to actually have a story and voice acting to go along with it all.

I'd certainly liked to play a new Final Fantasy with this style of game play, because honestly it is far more entertaining than the ATB system that FFXIII and FFXII have (I seriously can't bring myself to finish either because their battle systems bore me so much).

This so much. I really enjoyed playing Bravely Default because of its battle system and quests. I haven't completed the demo 100% yet but this game is really motivating me to do so. I really wish Final Fantasy went back to this style of gameplay instead of the ATB system that's been used in the newer FF games (looking at you XIII & XIII-2). Also, on the curious side what mode did you play the demo on?

Normal mode. I'd heard it was somewhat on the hard side so I thought that would be a manageable difficulty. I have yet to get a game over, and the closest I've gotten to death was having two KOed characters at once in the very final boss fight of the demo. I'd try and see how much harder hard mode is, but I've hit the level cap, mastered all the jobs, and bought the best equipment, so it likely won't make much of a difference. That's eight hours of work, so I'm not tempted to start the demo over in hard mode. xD

Impressive. I've died from normal enemies a few time because I didn't understand the Brave andDefault battle system at first lol. But now I know what to do and fighting enemies is a breeze for me now.

Thanks. :) That isn't to say I haven't had a rough time in a few fights, though. In the forest area I got into a fight with one of those scorpion things and a dryad. I wasn't prepared for the dryad's high HP and the scorpions ability to call in more. I had to drag that fight out for six minutes to stay alive, then just had to brave spam all of my characters and hope it worked in the very end. X_X Those dang wizards in the temple area also gave me a bunch of trouble as I didn't have any spells to cure status ailments when I first went to the dungeon.

What jobs do you use? I've got

Tiz as a Knight with the second job ability as Singer.

Agnes as a White Mage with the second job ability as Black Magic.

Ringabell as a Ninja with the second job ability as B/W Magic.

Edea as a Valkyrie with the second job ability as Bushido.

Oh, so you've just been using Freelancer (the default job class)? Have you fought any of the bosses yet? I think those would be really hard without at least one character as a healer. X_X

Got the game, it's a brilliant JRPG!
