Do you think anything of a person's reply speed to a text or message?

Posted

Say you're messaging someone and no matter how long it takes YOU to reply to them, they always reply within seconds of your message. I ask this because I type fast and (usually) reply fast also, if I just happen to be online. Sure I multitask and do other things (homework, reading, games, drawing), but I'm always veeeery quick to reply to someone if I get a message. I don't know, do you do that? If you know someone like this, do you think anything of it?

See, I'm afraid of coming off as idk... I'm just cautious about it now. "Oh, she took two minutes to reply to me? I'll wait a bit too.." just because I wouldn't want to sound up their asses or anything o_o

But yeah. I mean unless I'm out or too busy to reply then of course I won't, but if I'm just chilling and someone messages me then even if it takes them a while during a convo, I'm usually pretty quick. Well, was. As I said I'm trying not to be so quick now...

Thoughts?

I usually reply back as quickly as possible because I don't want someone to feel like I'm ignoring them. People could be doing other things, so I try not to feel like I'm being ignored when they don't reply right away, but it's hard not to feel a little shitty when people take a while to reply.

I reply fast out of instinct. For me I get annoyed because I'll send them a fast text, and I'll have to wait like 5mins hah xD,

A speedy response to a text for me usually just shows promptness.  If it's not immediate, then they get to it when they get to it.  I don't speculate the hidden meaning behind response time, if one ever exists.  I myself try to respond when I get the chance to.  I just think it shows professionalism... even though we're talking about a text on eating too much spicy food.

I don't really think anything of it

Fool. Things happen. The speed of the response doesn't matter.

I reply, usually as soon as I can. No one seems to mind the speed, even though my mind likes to find all sorts of hidden meanings in why it took someone an extra ten minutes to reply..

what i mean is im afraid of coming off too...i dont know the word, maybe "needy" if i respond to fast or anything, haha :) But since nobodyseems to think that way then I guess I should just go about my normal ways, then.

Yes, I don't wanna seem clingy so I normally take my time before responding

Same thing with the phone- only pick up from the third ring onward

Gotta play it cool

Story of my life. I'm going to be honest, I don't want to sound clingy or crazy or anything, but I text as soon as I can (sometimes it'll take me a while) But when I wait like an hour or something for a reply my mind jumps to conclusions and I get pissed. ^^' However if I find out that person was busy or was napping I don't mind. When it happens all the time though I  do get mad. ._.

I'm used to responding fast but my scatterbrain makes that hard sometimes

It gets weird when they don't respond for a week and you see them everyday...

Haha yup xD

Usually no. I tend to get annoyed if it's been a few days and they haven't answered (I don't text much so this assumes it's a fairly important conversation) but in general, as long as they respond to me within a day or two, it doesn't bug me. I completely understand getting busy and forgetting to check your phone or temporarily losing it.

I usually reply late purposefully because I'm one of those people that like to give good replies and keep the conversation interesting.  I'm not too worried on how long it takes for them to reply unless it's like a day.  It also helps from not seeming to be clingy or not having a life.

It's tough. I'm not the best at replying (I swear Ducky I will reply to our PM tomorrow or the day after, whenever my laptop comes!) but if someone replies to me in seconds or mitts then I will almost surely try to reply them back soon. Taking hours to reply after someone else only takes seconds, without giving any notification that you're busy is honestly quite rude.

Fool. Rule of thumb. What how ever long it takes you to eat 5 tator tots.

I also reply as fast as I can because I like to carry on conversations for as long as I can. I will take time to reply if I'm playing a multiplayer game or if I'm doing homework, but if I'm helping I usually leave my phone unlocked (I don't have to anymore though 'cause I jailbroke my phone) so I can help them and get them on their way. I tend to forget to answer if I don't answer right away so I don't really think it's a problem. I prefer speedy texters because I love having and carrying on a conversation.

I'm a slow typer....(yes I'm that guy.). So I guess I can't really think much into it.

Well ,if anyone here has chatted with me before , they probably already know that I am replying really fastly .

Nope.

No, that would make me a hypocrite, seeing as I'm one of those people who take forever to respond. If I didn't initiate the conversation, then there's no telling when I'll find the text. Then, of course, it takes me like five minutes to type a response because 1) I'm slow at typing on those dang touch screen keyboards with their tiny freaking keys and 2) My awkwardness is pretty much ten fold when texting as compared to actually talking to me or posts I make online, so I have to take my time in order to not look stupid.

It doesn't really matter, since I only have one of my friend's number, we hardly ever text, and sometimes she'll just drop out right in the middle of a conversation. X_X

As long as it's not like a one word response or some bullshit like that, I wouldn't read too much into the delay between the person responding to you.

Yes. The speed shows how much attention the person's bothering to give you.

What if they're busy, though? I've had a lot of situations where I got busy while talking to someone and had to drop the conversation for a while without having the time to tell them. Didn't mean I didn't bother to give them attention.
