After a few years of my dad not understanding my love of Kingdom Hearts, I started showing him a walkthrough of KHFM (thank you, 1.5), and guess what? He's hooked! He's not always super-interested in the gameplay, but he's gotten into the story! We're about 2/3 of the way through KHFM, should finish some time in the next week. Then it's on to 1.5's Re: CoM, where we will be skipping a lot of gameplay because even I find the general battle within the card worlds to be boring to watch.

Assuming we finish KHFM and Re: CoM before December 2 (which seems likely), what should my next step be? Should I show him 358/2, which has been HD-ified (I found a video that has both the HD cutscenes and all scenes from the original that got left out of 1.5), or should I go in release order and show him the not-always-great English patch of KH2FM before 358/2? Or should we just take a break from KH and wait for 2.5, watch KH2FM in HD, and then watch 358/2?

358/2 days, its earlier in the story anyways.

I'd say wait for 2.5. You don't get the same experience unless you play in release order.

Show him the official English release of 2, then just go back and watch the translated versions of cutscenes exclusive to KH2FM. Or wait until the rerelease. Either way, try to stick in the order of release dates and not the timeline itself.

358, of course. He'll be completely stumped with II if you show him that first.

I wish my dad understood how important KH is to me & took interest in it. Parents just don't understand!!!!

2 is the muuuuuuuuuuchhh better game

This is the absolute truth.

II came out first

II came out first

Yeah, but the whole story with Roxas is confusing without 358. That's why the cutscenes are in 1.5.

I went through the games chronologically (BBS was my first game), so I saw Days before II, and while it DID make more sense to me, I was kind of bummed that I spoiled so many big reveals for KH2 (Roxas' identity, "Ansem" actually being Riku, etc).

Show him 358/1 days and enjoy his tears...

I would probably go with 358 first.

I say wait for 2.5 HD so you can preserve some of the mystery that comes with KH2FM.

358 because it would make it flow better
