So some people seem upset by Final Fantasy XV's possible combat system

"With the hardware specifications of the newer consoles, it's possible to set it up so you have different enemies and different choices of attacks you can enter in, but I want to simplify that. It'll basically be a one-button action, and the AI intuitively outputs an action that kind of satisfies, gives you that instant gratification, and it connects with the simple touch of a button. I myself am not getting any younger. I don't want to be frantically pushing buttons.."

For anyone upset by this focus on what matters- we're finally on the verge of getting Final Fantasy XV! Maybe it's not everything you dreamed it will be but just be glad the game is finally coming out!

I myself would prefer Kingdom Hearts style combat where each button press makes an action but I've waited over 8 years for this game- I'm not about to begin complaining so long as the story and characters deliver

So, people shouldn't be annoyed with Duke Nukem, because at least it came out after a long wait?

I was pretty disappointed hearing about that at first, but if you look at other FF games, they almost do the same thing.  Crisis Core and Type-0 just have only one form of attacking and they were still super fun to play.  Heck Hajime Tabata also directed those games.  I wanted the battle system to be like KH too but I'm sure they'll make the wait worth it

Kingdom Hearts is literally just a series of X's and occasional Triangles. Big deal.

I don't care if the gameplay is different from KH, but what I understood from what Tabata said is that you basically hold down buttons and the game plays by itself. I HAVEN'T BEEN WAITING ALL THIS TIME TO HOLD DOWN A BUTTON!!!!!! Remember when FFXV was announced last year and Nomura said it was still the SAME GAME HE HAD ENVISIONED FROM THE BEGINNING! MEANING IT STILL WAS FFvsXIII and they had simply changed the name! WELL I LIKED THAT! IN FACT I LOVED THAT! But now Tabata is changing everything and even though he says "he's trying to keep Nomura's vision" HE'S STILL MAKING ME MAD! BECAUSE HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE TRYING TO KEEP NOMURA'S VISION, HE SHOULD EXECUTE NOMURA'S VISION! I'VE BEEN WAITING TO SEE NOMURA'S VISION IN THAT GAME FOR 8 FREAKING YEARS! AND HE'S CHANGING IT ALL NOW! WHY WOULD HE DO THAT! He even said "When the game was still FFvsXIII..." WHEN THE GAME WAS STILL FFVSXIII???!!!?!?!?! MEANING IT'S NOT THE GAME NOMURA SHOWED BECAUSE NOMURA SAID HIS GAME WAS STILL FFVSXIII BUT TABATA IS CHANGING IT...Ugh! I just hate Tabata right now. I know he sees great things for FFXV but he really worries me. Maybe he just made an error when he described the battle system or maybe it's not as bad as we think...We'll just have to wait until March...At least, we'll be able to say if we like the game or not before we actually buy it. I should wait until then to say how I feel about FFXV but I still hate that it's not the same game they showed us before.

Sorry for the caps. I needed to get it out of my system.

Well, there are a limited number of buttons on console controller and I like having many different attacks available, so I actually like the idea of the attack you use changing depending on the situation. My only problem with button mashing is that it typically results in the same 3-5 hit combo but if the AI can read the situation and have you execute entirely different attacks on different enemies with the same button, that sounds cool to me.

Look at Bandai-Namco's Tales series, all attacks are executed with either the X or O buttons but by pressing additional buttons the attack changes. Imagine if the AI can do that without the additional input, that opens up the possibility of many more available attacks with them than there are now. In future games of course, not XV.

I want a game ive been waiting for to be good. Not shit.

'cept it's notIt's just a simplified version of the Kingdom Hearts battle system, not like they changed it to turn-based or some strategy game

Doesn't matter what the game is, people are always going to complain about something So the battle system is simple, it's not like they made it Ninja Gaiden difficult or something

Most video games are pressing a buttonYou're really going to complain about having to hold a button instead of pressing a button?

Yes. I like pushing buttons. If i wanted to hold a button and watch someone fight. I'd watch a movie.

Final Fantasy XV still has free roam real time battlingIt's not like they revamped the entire system, it's simply the difference between holding a button and pressing a button multiple timesVery nit-picky

You still have to move the character with the analog stick and possibly dodge enemy attacks/teleport with a different buttonThe entire game can't be played by holding down a single button

Dodge by holding a button Attack by holding a different button and teleport by holding a different button...woooooo.... I play games to PLAY them. To push the buttons to attack. To push different buttons to make cool combos on my own. I didnt play kh2 by just pushing 1 button over aand over. I pushed different ones at different times to make different combos. Thats fun. I like fun. Holding a button while the game does everything for me is not fun.

Gameplay is nice but it's still free roam and real time combat, it's kinda superficial like graphics thoughSure video games are supposed to have good gameplay but XV still does- you just have to hold buttons rather than press them, it's just nit-pickingSo long as the characters and story are compelling and interesting that's what makes a game endearing and worth playingBut no matter what the game is, there will always be something people can complain about

Gameplay is the most important part for me in video games. I could care less about free roam or graphics.

Holding buttons is boring gameplay.

Characters and story dont matter to me in a game. Sure its nice. But a game could have a crap story and awesome gameplay and I would enjoy it a lot more than a game that has a great story and crap gameplay.

I have a good reason for complaining. I have been waiting for this game for awhile. I was excited about the direction it was heading in. The gameplay looked great. (which again is most important to me) But now what made me most excited got ripped out.

I've waited for this game since the Somnus trailer and I'm not complaining, just a difference in flexibility- it's not like the combat has been completely revamped and all of a sudden it's turn-basedYou care about gameplay, I care about content- that's the difference between usIt's too superficial for me to complain about but if you can't get over it that's your beef, in which case I hope the game one day becomes everything you've dreamed it to be

So what, we all have to pretend that this game is absolute perfection? It looks good, but.. just that. Good. The fact that it's just holding a button to do combat really doesn't help, either. At least mashing buttons feels more interactive than just holding one down. If all you do is hold a button down, it gets boring quickly, and there's practically no strategy. Might as well just make it a movie if the combat system is going to be that watered-down.

And before anyone says "At least the story looks good," I play games for the gameplay. That's what makes it a game in the first place. I can play a game with a crappy story if it has good gameplay, but no matter how the story is, I won't play it if the gameplay completely sucks (Not saying FFXV has crappy gameplay, but it sounds a lot less enticing than it did before...).

The two extremes I can see are heavy rain and a 1-button Batman Arkham game... The first option would mean I might as well be watching a giant cutscene, the second option would be waterdowned gameplay that could have some cool moments.

The only thing that's changed is holding a button rather than pressing oneI've waited over about 8 years now, everything else they've promised is practically intact so I'm not about to let something so superficial upset meIf it's really such a beef with you I hope for your sake that it's remedied

It's superficial to you, but for those of us who were looking forward to a more dynamic gameplay style (The single reason why I planned on getting the game in the first place), we're pretty disappointed. I haven't been waiting 8 years like everyone else. In fact, I thought the game looked incredibly boring until the recent TGS trailer. However, this is definitely saddening. Of course, I've come to expect disappointment from Square, anyway. This isn't really a surprise to me.

It's basically just Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Final Fantasy XII combined.

What's wrong with the gambit system? If that worries you better worry even more since Ito is most likely directing XVI.

There's literally no user input required, which made the game boring as heck. Also, I don't even care about XVI. I'm not a fan of the newer FF games. XV was almost an exception before this was announced.

Oh do you still think they're gonna make an HD remake of XII after Type-0?
