Smash has just been confirmed for November 21. While it is a good time for release, I think that day is horrible. That is the same day the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire release; and with the Smash and Pokemon fanbase generally the same they are asking people to cough up some serious cash (especially for those who have yet to get a Wii U) What is your opinion on releasing two major titles on the same day?

I think it's a good idea. Nintendo needs a console pusher and Smash Bros. is a great way to boost sales during the holidays. Also I don't think people wanna wait for it anyways. I pan on getting all 3 of those games that day anyways.

That makes no sense dude they're on a different console so I don't get how Pokemon ORAS would affect Smash Bros aside from the 3DS version

 

A bad idea for you if you don't have enough money.But generally a good idea because it's only one day before Black Friday and the holiday season

 

A.K.A financially this is a great idea as the profit generated from both games will grant them more profit and less losses for their fiscal year

It was done last year with SM3DW and LBW. Not too surprised they pulled this stunt, but glad they did. Hitting two birds with one stone.

 

If "because I don't have enough money" is the reason it's a bad idea, Nintendo could care less. They plan to make money with a good release date, 1 week before Black Friday for the US.

No one said it was a bad idea when Link Between Worlds and Super Mario 3D World were both released on the same day last year. Why's it such a horrible thing that Smash Wii U and Pokemon OR/AS are being released together?

 

Also, we knew this would be the release date for a month now. I don't see why this is suddenly a big deal now.

Because it's Nintendo and people love to find the most insignificant thing about it,magnify it and make a big deal about it to generate a shitstorm out of nothing

JK. Seriously though, that's awesome that they stuck with their promise and it fit within the time frame that everybody was hoping for. This is really good news for me and my campus club, as we've been planning on holding a Smash tournament on the first Friday of December. That's plenty of time for one of us to utterly ruin about a week of our lives trying to unlock most of the characters.

 

At last, it will be time to get UTTERLY SMASHED!!

It shouldn't take too long to unlock everyone. You'll probably get them all on day one, depending on how early you get the game. Of course, this is assuming it's going to be the same requirements as the 3DS version, and I hope it won't be.

I've been asked to run a Pokemon ORAS program on the 24th. Having this come out the same day as Pokemon allows me to run both as Pokemon are involved in Smash Bros as well. This saves the need of having two separate events timed withing days I don't have work. For me, that's a good thing. However, in the case of Nintendo, it's also a good thing. This doubles their profits with the release of the two most anticipated Nintendo games of the year in just one weekend.

I also think it's a bad idea. Though in Europe gets released on the 5th. But ORAS comes on the 27th...

I'm actually hoping that linking the 3DS version will just unlock the characters on the Wii U version, but only because you unlocked them on the 3DS version. Like, say you missed a character on the 3DS version (nearly impossible, but food for thought), you wouldn't get it through linking the versions together.

they did it with a link between worlds and 3d world so i dont think that nintendo is aware of the other side / issue.

I dun see any issue outside of the fact that Pokemon will just barely overshadow Smash.

The europe release date is the same date as the kingdom hearts 2.5 release

I personally don't mind but I'm not a pokemon fan, the date though makes sense from the view that parent's will be buying for xmas presents.  It makes sense to space them out so those with the influx cash think "Oh look a game" played it "oh look another nintendo game came out a month later, I'm bored with the first I'll buy this one too" since it does force a lot of people to choose between the two on the day but those same people would probably justify spending the same amount on them over 2-3 months instead of 1 day

It's a week before Black Friday in the US. It will sell just fine. In fact, many people who have been holding out on a Wii U while waiting for Smash will probably get them now. I expect a huge increase in units sold

It's not a bad idea, because knowing Nintendo it'll be a combination for really high sales. Nintendo almost ALWAYS has incredible holiday season pushes, so this should be no exception, especially with 2 titles like those. 

I don't see an issue with the release date for the new smash brothers.

That's a personal issue that you are to blame if you didn't have any sort of management for your savings.Companies won't go to your house and abide to your personal wishes and say" Oooooh you don't have money by November 21st?It's ooookay we can delay our big release just for you maaaan"

I really don't have a problem with this. In fact, this is a good thing because that means that I'll be able to buy two games in one day instead of going to GameStop a few times to buy them. SO this saves me the trouble of having to g to the store more often just to get Smash bros Wii U and Pokemon.

They're releasing both of them around that time in time for the Black Friday / gift giving season, so I really don't think it's much of a problem. Sure some sales might be affected, but as long as it keeps selling over a period of time it won't really matter in the long run since the people who want both will eventually get both anyway.

Gotta make it in time for the Christmas shopping spree here in America! I don't really mind, since I've already preordered Alpha Sapphire and Smash Bros at the same store, so hey, I save some gas in the long run. =P

I don't believe the release date is a bad idea to be honest. Like some have said, they are killing two birds with one stone and with Black Friday being a big deal it'll also boost sales. America gets it two weeks before everyone else so they can enjoy it for all I care. While a lot of Nintendo fans will pick up both games it's obvious that Pokemon attracts a different demographic than Smash. Kids are going to be the ones bugging their parents for Pokemon not Smash, so really Nintendo can afford to release two big games. Smash Wii U will help push the systems sales and Pokemon will do what Pokemon does. They may be out the same day but really only the most dedicated fans will be picking up both and as we've known about the release date of Pokemon for a while now, really nobody has an excuse not to have the thing pre-ordered by now.

 

That being said, Smash Wii U is out the same day as Kingdom Hearts 2.5 here in Europe and Pokemon is out the week before that. So in a way I'm more annoyed about the fact that I'm getting 3 games in the space of a week rather than America getting two flagship titles on their respected platforms on the same day. I know KH isn't any of Nintendo's business but for me I'm annoyed that Smash won't hit Europe (and Japan I guess) until December. But that's sadly how the world works.
