Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX bombs, X/X-2 HD Remaster continues to sell

Posted

According to VGChartz, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX sold 138,932 copies in North America as of December 6. North America is the series' strongest market. The numbers weren't much better in Europe with 103,819 copies. This brings the combined worldwide total to 460,000 copies.

This is the lowest selling entry in the series by far with Re:Chain of Memories the closest on 870,000 copies despite not being released outside of Japan & North America.

On the other hand, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster continues to sell. The PS3 version has hit 1.11 million copies sold while the Vita version has sold 620,000 copies. That's a combined 1.73 million copies sold worldwide. Important to note this does NOT include digital sales and X/X-2 HD Remaster has sold very well digitally and topped the PlayStation Store charts in March.

Well, X/X-2 has been out longer than 2.5, so sure, 2.5's gonna be behind in sales, but I'm sure sales will increase for the game with time.

It was obvious 2.5 would bomb.

PS3 was stronger back when FFX/x-2 HD remaster came out, but it weakens everyday now that PS4 is here.

FFX/X-2 HD remaster.

9 months ago, 2 consoles, digital version.

KH2.5

A few weeks ago, one console on it's last legs, no digital version.

It's not fair to compare them under those circumstances.

I'm not comparing it to X/X-2. Never once did I. I clearly compare it with Re:CoM the previous lowest selling entry in the series which also released as a late life PS2 title and was exclusive to Japan & North America.

The title of this topic pretty much compares them. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just KH2.5's bad sales are only because of it's circumstances. Ask KH1.5

In your opinion. But not once did I compare them. Re:CoM had much worse circumstances but it still sold double what 2.5 has.

And we're letting sales upset us why.....?

Who cares: 2.5 just didn't reach an audience beyond the hardcore fans.

Re:COM was at least a new game (a remake of a gba game), not just remastered games. It also didn't help that PS3 was incredibly expensive at launch and wasn't as quickly adapted as the PS4, so more people would still be in the PS2 ecosystem.

Better actually.

Re:CoM

Released late life on PS2 behind PS3, but PS3 was selling horribly. At that time it was the worst selling console and PS2 still had a lot of life and many years left in it.

KH2.5

Released late life on PS3 behind the fastest selling console ever, PS4. And sadly PS3 was never hugely popular to begin with. Plus, about a third of the fans would want a digital release now unlike in 2007.

Ahem.

That's not comparing, I included X/X-2 HD in this topic because it makes no sense to make another topic about it continuing to sell.

Better actually.

Re:CoM was released in Dec 2008 in NA. How on earth is releasing in only half the world better? That's just rubbish.

Considering PS2 was A LOT bigger than 3 and the transition was a lot slower... this is worse. And you were kinda comparing them, but that's besides the point.

I had no idea you knew the future.

Considering the game has only been out for 2 weeks in English speaking territories why not cut the game some slack? As long as you enjoy the game why bother pointing out sales? We all know SE are just gonna port the remasters to the PS4 and get some more sales so who cares?

Not the best timing to release an HD remaster, there are so many other games that just came out and they shot themselves on the foot by making it a PS3 exclusive,it should have been available at least on PS4 as well.Heck even I still don't own the game yet despite being a big fan of Kingdom Hearts.

Considering it was ONLY released in JP & NA. I wasn't, I should bloody know. Lol.

I do. :P

Because Square Enix needed it to sell better after Curtain Call bombed even more.

Historically, Kingdom Hearts games sell best in NA and Japan: for instance KH1, KH2, and KH3D only sold ~20% outside those two regions. I guess they crunched the numbers and decided 20% of their market wasn't worth the extra costs to port to PAL PS2s.

It was obvious 2.5 would bomb.

Wait until Square uses this as an excuse to not bring any other KH remaster over to the west....

I really hope this doesn't affect a possible 3D hd.... or the actual development of Kh3..... These are bad news for the Kh fanbase...

We don't need to discuss their reasoning for that now. It adds up though, we don't have KH2FM+'s sales and when you add that with possible sales in Europe & Australia it would have most likely outsold KH3D.
