The future is a very, very dark place.

I feel like saying you're pursuing mobile games aggressively is kind of an oxymoron. That's basically like saying you are going for the hardcore casual market.

Yeah, people who play games just to pass time, but don't really care about them. :/

Indeed it is, I miss the PS2 era.

I know what Konami really needs. A NEW CEO.

Yeah, one who cares about gaming and not just money.

$$$$$$$$$ KONAMI LOVES GAMERS $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Seriously, I think Square Enix, Nintendo, and indie developers are the only good developers now.

Seriously, I think Square Enix, Nintendo, and indie developers are the only good developers now.

Even Square Enix is favoring mobile over PS4. I'm sorry, but I think mobile is such a waste. There were times when we dreamed of games looking like real life, and now that we can achieve that, we'd rather play lackluster mobile games. :(

You must realize in Japan Konami isn't that big on gaming, they do other forms of business like gyms. And anyway, Konami would just be making shit games.

Favoring mobile? HA. That's just because Mobile is becoming popular in Japan. Square Enix hasn't forgotten about console players! Still, Square, Nintendo, and indie developers. At least they care about fans, and they try to please them.

Mobile is a huge market, yes because so many people will play games on their phones because they are inexpensive and accessible, but the problem is that it's a VERY fast paced market. You have to constantly be making new games to keep in business because that casual market does not stay interested in a game for too long and they are always ready to move onto the next big craze game. So many game companies that focused heavily on these types of games which started only a few years ago are not struggling just to stay relevant.

The mobile casual game market is moving so quickly that it's really only a market that is going to be around for a little longer because once this next big thing in smartphone tech comes around and changes the game again, it will force all devs to start over on a new platform. Remember when iOS was "the future" for all devs? Android was "no threat". Fast forward only 2-3 years and then more Android phones exist than iPhones. Who is to say someone else isn't going to break the trend again and change everything all over again? Phones are a CONSTANTLY advancing market. They have a VERY steep learning curve because they are always changing. If you want to go into phone development for software then you need to accept the fact that the moment you get out of college that everything you learned may already be irrelevant.

Konami's games are amazing. Metal Gear Solid.

Castlevania fans would disagree atm. And Kojima's gone.

Graphics is all you care about? Lol. Mobius Final Fantasy looks better than a lot of PS4 games. So don't tell me we aren't getting pretty games.

What. On. Earth. Are. They. Doing?

What. On. Earth. Are. They. Doing?

Killing off their reputation as a AAA developer, obviously.

pursuing mobile games is what did it?

not what they did to like

Jim Sterling or Super Bunny Hop?

Yeah, better than indies. You certainly aren't getting anything that looks like a full-blown PS4 game. FFXV, MGSv, UC4, and even KH3 will look better than anything on mobile. And no, they aren't all I care about, but I still think mobile is a waste.

I also see the issue with mobile games in that they are INCREDIBLY temporary. In 5 years from now if the game is no longer on the app store it becomes harder and harder to get a hold of it, on top of the fact that they do not work properly on newer versions of mobile OSes. Basically in 5 years, if the game is not updated it's gone forever. It's not like with console games where I can get the hardware off of ebay, or I can just save my hardware from when I bought it and keep the game on my shelf. For a mobile game, unless I plan on keeping an ancient phone and keep it operational, I may lose access to that game.

Not to mention that mobile devices have a rather short life span and fairly poor durability.

im glad youtube was more on the side of super bunny hop on that one. Another thing that helps to understand what konami is doing is they make bank from slot machines they develop they could care less about the gaming side of things as seen by the silent hill hd collection and not promoting half of their games. Konami is crap and will now forever be crap.

More than just indies. Lol. Five years, it's likely. Well that's where you're wrong since you can get 16 billion yen off a free game in a matter of months.

Dude, thank you. I've been saying this for years.

Right on man.

I guess the heart of the problem is that game companies are afraid of taking risks. They have devolved the basic instinct necessary for survival. Business is all about survivability, and to do that, risks must be taken. Companies are now trying to circumvent the risks and still get the payouts, which for business makes sense, but it puts them in a position ironically that will make them INSANELY vulnerable in the future. The moment someone comes out with something that pays off big that requires risk taking, these companies will be so set in their ways of non-risk taking they will be out of their comfort zone.

Record Keeper is just one game. It didn't make GTA V like profits. :P You say that it's good cause it makes SE money, but why should I care about them making money if they never make stuff I want?

Again, very true.

But for the amount of effort that went into record keeper, to come out with that much money? Im sure if we were to do comparisons of resources used to profit (that inculdes advertising, and a CRAP load of money went into GTAV advertising) i think it would be safe to say that the ratio between record keeper and gtaV wouldnt be too far off.And you really dont have to care about SE mobile division, no one said that you did, you are getting a ton of stuff already from SE, from both their console/handheld developing branches, and their publishing. So there really isnt any reason to complain about them as a company utilizing another highly profitable market, if anything, they are probable one of the top 5 gaming companies with a highly diverse portfolio, other than EA and Activision of course.
