Let's be serious: When will Kingdom Hearts end?

Featured Replies

I think it will keep going like Final Fantasy and every Nintendo franchise. They already said that KH3 is only the end of the saga, not the end of the series.

Why you gotta be such a downer? :P

But seriously, I don't know. We know that the series doesn't end with KHIII and Nomura has more plans for it in the future. Beyond that, whenever that dude retires or dies, it's up to Disney if they want to continue it, really. Will they? Possibly, but that's way down the line. I don't think Nomura is giving up anytime soon.

In my ideal world, KH will continue on for a very long time. I'd love to keep seeing new iterations each generation of Disney film releases. I mean, you look at the Metal Gear series and that's technically been going on since 1987 by the same guy. It's on it's last (Kojima-directed) game now, but even then it'll live on.

Well it's been confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 3 will end the Xehanort Saga but not the whole series, I kinda think the Kingdom Hearts series will go as long as the Final Fantasy series, The Legend of Zelda series, and the Mario Party series. This is such a great series.

Who cares?

I care. People care. I just don't want Kingdom Hearts to become rehash franchise like other franchises. (coughcoughSUPER MARIOcoughcough)

Never. its too big of a money maker for Square Enix. Final Fantasy and KH are the biggest sources of income for Square Enix

It will end someday , that's one thing for sure .

But , hey , take a look at some video game series like Grand Theft Auto or some Nintendo ones . They are still going on .

as long as the series is still ongoing with good ideas/concepts/stories/gameplay, i couldnt care how long it goes on for, it will never be like mario, marios storys simple kingdom hearts is really really complex with alot of things you can do with it.

I think it will end when the true Kingdom Hearts returns.

oh yeah, KH is in major danger of that happening

I can't even count all the times when a KH game reused gameplay from previous games

I can't count them becasue it never happened

In almost fifteen years

No matter if you like or not, video games franchise can't go on forever. Just like Kingdom Hearts. When will the franchise end?

Basically when it either stop selling or reached a point where no more stuff can be added

Y'know what the franchise need though?a firetrucking reboot...and no I don't mean DmC kind of reboot

Um, both Re: Coded and Dream Drop Distance used Birth by Sleep's gameplay.

ah, you're right

I totally forgot about how Re:Coded and DDD had shotlocks, dimension links, and finishers. Also totally forgot that you level up in BBS by using stat chips, and that you gain abilities by synthesizing Dream Eaters. And who could forget BBS's implementation of flowmotion, never mind the ability to level up keyblades by ifghting enemies.

They were practically the same game, how could I forget

I meant that they both used the deck command styled gameplay from Birth by Sleep.

that's not the same gameplay, that's a single mechanic

Well, sure they used diffferent gameplay engines but they still used the deck command. So it is kind of the same.

Hello?

the worlds of KH1 are constantly reused in the series ever since Chain of Memories, and Re:Coded is the most guilty of this

I feel like at some point all the KH characters(except Sora) are going to die off and the Final Fantasy characters are going to aid Sora in his quest to save the world. :I

in the most basic way

people complain about it, but it's really trivial when they change the world and the story every time

Not really when the places you visit there are almost exactly the same

I'd rather see new worlds over reusing the old ones. And I'm so glad that in KH3 WE WON'T BE INSIDE THE COLOSSEUM FOR ONCE

Not really practical to assume every KH game can have a bunch of new worlds, that's kinda insane, budget-wise

Budget-wise?This is a crossover between properties of two multi-billion companies...this shouldn't be some low-budget project where you have to cut corners and reuse assets again when you won't need to,heck regardless of how big KH's budget is I doubt it's close to the budget of a main Final Fantasy title.Sure I'm not saying they should use every Disney movie but even if that's the case what about the Square parts of the crossover? If they're afraid of running out of Disney properties to use then why not base one of the worlds on a Square game like a world based on FF1 or Dragon Quest 3...etc.What started as a DisneyXFinal Fantasy idea now has Square properties be just cameos and nothing else with the exception of KH1 and KH2 where Leon and his gang actually contributed something

How about we try to flesh out the Square part of the crossover a little bit more rather than lazily spread them around for cameo rules?

big companies doesn't mean big profits. You put money into the games that will sell well, and less money into ones that won't

This isn't an issue of ideas, I'm sure they have plenty, it's jsut that they can't spend KH2 development and budget on every KH game, especially when they started console hopping
