Attention Roleplayers! Organization Discussion Thread.

Posted

As some of you may have noticed we have moved all social threads posted in Roleplay to the Random section. This has been done for a couple of reasons:

1. We have received complaints regarding this forum as being disorganized with too many RP irrelevant threads in existence.

2. The rules have always stated these threads are against posting standards in that section. We allowed one exception but yet there are several more existing ones made.. Social threads have always been expected to be posted in Random. You can post as many as you want there to your hearts content and that will be fabulous. Any future threads like this posted in Roleplay will be moved. This is a decision made by our Webmaster and team of mods on how to help clean up this forum.

We also want to implement prefixes to be used to help organize the threads and help distinguish them for all RP members. What do you guys think they should be? We would like your input on this so you can fully enjoy your RP experience!! Also here is where you can post any other suggestions within reason. We care about your experience here and want you to enjoy it to the fullest.

Our list of usable prefix ideas:

RP

Character Banks.

RP Idea/interest check.

What prefixes would you like used?

Thanks for your input and please discuss :)

1x1 I still think would be a good prefix

Maybe closed rp prefix, that way of someone wants to sign up for a closed/exclusive group, they'll know before they click on it that's is closed to everyone.

Edit: Also, any idea when these prefixes will be implemented?

I'd personally say that having Sign-Ups, Interest Checks, Character Banks, etc need to each have a separate subforum. This keeps it cleaner and keeps everything somewhere relevant. I don't want my Roleplay Character Bank in random, it'd be murder trying to find it.

That's my 2 cents.

Soon. We wanted to get some input in before we implement them, that's partially what this thread is for discussing. So keep any questions, suggestions, comments, or concerns you have coming! :)

The only thing going in Random are the group social chat threads as clearly stated above. The prefixes are to be used in the RP forum. We are not doing subsections bc DC does not want to.

Alrighty, thanks. I was curious if it was going to be this week or next Month or etc. Etc. Thanks for posting this update :3

I misread that, sorry ;-;And oh well. In lieu of that, can a sorting functon be added, to sort by prefix? That way we can quickly fund all character dumps or signups?

We can look into it and find out :)

This is actually a great idea, that way when I get proper internet again, I can sign up for more without searching several pages.

We can look into it and find out :)

So no Hentai prefix? :DI kid, I kid.

Smart move organizing everything.

THAT SIGNATUREI WANT IT!@topic: thanks for the clear up, hopefully the section will be a lot cleaner.Except the fact I don't post here because I don't have a roleplay character

Personally, I like having a few sub-forums instead, as they technically act more like folders or dividers that keep the area clean, but that's just me.

For Prefixes:

OOC (Out of Character, this is a thread for discussing the RP, can also be set as OOC/SIgn-ups as the OOC thread often doubles as a sign-up thread, but for simplicity/short icon sake, OOC should do just fine

GT (Game Thread, simple enough to understand)

Interest Check

INFO (Instead of just set as a character bank, keep it a little more general so that some threads work a little bit better as there aren't many banks, but lots of info threads, including tutorials and guides, which can go under here.

1x1 or Closed Group would be good to have.

And having a "Completed" "Discontinued", "Open OOC" and "Closed OOC" prefix would be nice for those who would like to make sure that their RP is getting/isn't getting new players asking to join when they do/don't want to have them, however these could be done in tags and it would be good practice to start adding these in the future, IMO.

The moments signature? Found it online randomly actually...

Alrighty. That sounds about right. The truth is, I actually like this because this one "RP" ended up becoming a social chat thread, or so it felt.

That's all. That's my input. :)

Rock on!

We know a lot of you have suggested subforums, the problem with this however, is it would fragment the section too much, by dividing it up, also making everything seem less active. That's why we're introducing prefixes instead, to distinguish between the different types of topics that are commonly seen in Roleplaying, while not fragmenting the section up.

Your prefix suggestions are great. We'll definitely take all this into consideration when implementing them. :)

That's a really good idea actually. I'm down for that.

They don't have to be. If we chop up and separate those into subforums, those subforums are gonna have little to no activity. There are not much of those said topics that warrant a need for subforums. Besides, with the prefixes, you can easily find what you need to look for.

Subforums aren't going to work for this. Its like having a drawer for 3 papers. It'll be pointless due to the lack of activity.

I don't RP, so could you mind explaining what Game thread and OOC really is? Your descriptions kind of lost me.

1x1/Closed Groups and Completed/Discontinued seem like a good idea, but not sure if we can multiple prefix one thread. I'll check that out.

INFO seems like a good idea but name gotta be nicer and more appropriate.

Game Thread (or Roleplay Thread) is the thread where all the INTO stuff happens. It's where the magic is.OOC is the signup/discussion thread, where people get info, sign up, and ask questions/talk about the rp. For nonspoiler stuff people use the thread as well.

Generally speaking, an RP has a few threads. The OOC is used as a game chat more or less, think something akin to an MMO chatroom, but with the game being the only real focus. Generally problems, concerns, group planning, big game news, Ect. Are all posted there. Some people, for wanting to avoid spamming or just to keep the number of threads needed to a minimum, lump it in with a sign-ups. And then the actual game is placed in another thread to keep the game sort of focused there, keep people from being spammed with posts in the pain that make it look like something major went on that had to be set with, ect. Reguardless of how it's implemented, they would be nice tools to help others know what's going on, the 1x1/closed probably the biggest as it helps people know what games are open or closed.

1x1 thing needs to be separate.

I also wouldn't want all the old roleplays to be deleted. There are so many good stories in that section.

It's so weird seeing this all happen o-o

None of them are deleted. Just some of them are moved to Random bc they are not roleplays. They are social chat threads. You can post as many of those as you wish in Random :P

Yeah I agree with the 1x1, closed group and OOC ideas.

Prefixes will definitely help to keep things neater and more organized in the RP section, which will be a definite boon since it's rather cluttered with various categories of things.  Here's some prefixes that I think would be beneficial:

Role-play

Sign-ups

RP ETC (Something like ItNeverGetsBetterThanThis suggested; as there are a lot of tutorial and RP information, including character banks, et cetera.)

Interest Check

1X1

OOC is practically an out-of-character discussion which takes place in the sign-up threads.  Personally I think a sign-up prefix would be better since that is it's predominant purpose while OOC is more of a given, but it would work either way.  OOC seems to be an older term.

I really like your choices for prefixes and agree with most of them.  However, I am wondering if roleplay and sign-ups would be better to use for terms instead of Game Thread and OOC.  Those seem to be older terms that are being overridden by RP and sign-ups now, but in the end it doesn't really matter since both are the same.  Those are just my thoughts, at any rate.  I rarely see game thread now except for on other RP sites.
