After all the delays and all the time this game has been in development, we are finally getting FFXV this year. The release date will be announced at a special event in March and the game is currently in pre-beta according to director Hajime Tabata. After close to 10 years of development, it feels amazing that something that was once in development hell is now finally a reality and its only months away from release. My first time seeing trailers for this game i was only 12 years old and it was the main reason i got a PS3 back in the day. Now i am 22 years old and i am just as excited as i was back then. • It's not a few months away, only the release date. It'll still be featured at E3 and maybe even TGS.

  • I'm actually afraid that the game will end up failing big time due to all the wait and hype the game is getting.

  • Even then though, it wasn't *that* big. People were MUCH more excited for Toriyama's XIII. Even the various VII stuff over the year has had more excitement than Versus XIII or XV.       Really? W

i strongly believe they are releasing it during the summertime a bit after E3 ends. With 2.8 also coming out this year, i think they are most likely spacing out the two titles over different seasons with FFXV coming first

Lol.. 2.8 is the least of their concerns. In case you forgot they're also releasing World of Final Fantasy, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Hitman, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Nier 2, Setsuna, Star Ocean 5, SaGa Scarlet Grace, Dragon Quest XI...

Is it actually confirmed to appear at E3 or are you just taking an educated guess?

i agree with him. it most likely will appear at E3 because it is the largest stage they could show it at. That is if it doesn't release before which is highly unlikely

Ha, yeah ok. Suuure

The hype is actually lower than ever. If you look at Google searches for the last few major FF titles this is the lowest by far and it has never been that big.

They haven't featured it at E3 in any way since the re-announcement, they'd be crazy not to.

it was alot bigger back when it was Versus XIII but square enix took so long in developing it that many fans just lost hope and interest that it was ever going to be released. i myself thought it was going to be cancelled until the XV announcement at E3 2013

Well I wouldnt exactly say the game is all built up on hype, I mean people have played its demo, they do have a taste on what its gonna be like, its not all just high expectations.

Plus after its big reveal the hype hasnt really increased since than.

Well thats reasonable.

It'll be out by TGS.

Really? When? August is already booked. Square Enix are known for marketing games already out at events too.

My prediction

March comes around

Square Enix: "We are very happy to finally announce that the long awaited Final Fantasy XV will be released on January 10th 2017! We aplogize for the unfortunate delay, but please be excited!"

This game is a late summer release at the earliest.  This is most likely a fall release.

How can it be 2017 when Tabata said it will come out before 2017?There should not be any hype for it. People should look forward to getting it and being excited while keeping cool heads. Too much hype has caused unhappy people and too much trashing of SQEX because of selfish expectations not being met. I look forward to seeing FFXV releasing this year, but I will remain calm about it.

Oh yeah, because they could end up delaying it somehow and yet still tell us the be excited.

Exactly

Wow. That's.... rather contradictory.

If it has a strong fanbase who have been waiting to play (ie all those people who vote on Famitsu's Most Wanted in Japan) don't you think it would produce lots of sales?

Nobody seems to have a lot of faith in what Tabata's saying, with the whole thing about "Ehhh I don't trust him. It's just gonna get delayed again"

Well, I understand that there's not like a dramatic sense of hype, however I'm just saying that this game has been in development for a long time. As people has been waiting for so long, it's natural that it could generate unreasonably high expectations. Luckily, from what I seen everyone in the FF community seems to be very patient and chill over the game which is good, whoever it's only natural to feel concern considering the game has been in development for so long. The same thing happened with Duke Nukem Forever

Ahhhh, good point. Interestingly enough, I've noticed as FFXV continued, lots and lots of newcomers have been jumping on. Not just people I know personally, but the behavior seems to reflect a lot online. I see it a lot on Youtube with comments like "Which FF should I start with?" or "Do I need to play all the FF's to know this story?" Plus like you said, it seems to me like the community is rather patient, and a lot of us seem to like the flow of information via ATR. Hopefully the game does well especially in Japan, 'cause I really don't want to see FF end yet...

But the return of the JRPG era is upon us....

I hope so too. I just hope that people won't have ridiculously high expectations for the game because of how long it's been in development. Things like that usually happen, and sure the game could be great and all, but people could still be disappointed due to again unreasonably high expectations. My big fear is that this will happen with KH3.

It might be announced in March together with the cover.

I hope for release in July.

Being high on Famitsu's most wanted means little since there's only 2 million PS4's in Japan.

Damn, I remember way back in 2006, when this game was announced as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and I remember confusing Noctis for a gray haired Cloud! xD But yeah, it's been quite a long time coming for this game!  I haven't followed its development closely, as I've been busy with the Kingdom Hearts series and many other video games I've been playing, so the wait hasn't felt long for me, ya know?  I'm very excited for XV and I'm hoping to get it when it comes out! :D
