Tetsuya Nomura has made it clear that he has not even began development of Kingdom Hearts 3. However, ideas are being laid on the table, and Square Enix will be sure to tease us with information maybe in the next Tokyo Game Show, so let the speculation begin. Kingdom Hearts 3 is the term that many fans of the series declare will be the next major console release. A lot of smaller releases have been made on the PSP and DS consoles, but a lot of us are disappointed in that because we want to play this beloved video game on a console with power. It seems that Square Enix is just trying to expand its market, and raise the audience of the game before actually coming out with what we call the true release, that will most likely be highly anticipated and requested by many video gamers all over. But a lot of details are scarce. Knowing that they have been releasing the Kingdom Hearts series on a multitude of consoles, will the game still be loyal to the Sony and the PlayStation 3, or will it be a multiplatform game? What sort of features will the game hone and how will the story progress as of now? Well, to understand the storyline of this game, you will need to play pretty much every game in the series. This game is an amalgam of Final Fantasy and Disney characters in one. The story line is an enjoyable one, to say the least, and it manages to capture your attention and tug on your heart as you make your way through this epic. There are five games worth playing in this series so far, to my count. That would be Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, birth by sleep, chain of memories, and 358/2 days, not necessarily in the order. The story line of all of these video games intertwine into one another, so just hopping into a random game in this series may leave you lost and constantly questioning why something has come to be. Sora, Donald and Goofy Many are speculating that the new console game will not even involve the original cast of characters, being Sora, Riku, Kairi, Goofy, Donald and Mickey. As seen in the new games that have been released in the series, a new set of characters have been introduced, during the times of the Keyblade War. So who knows who you may play as this time around, maybe the two casts of characters will meet up in the game. The whole set up of the story leaves little room for speculation, because a jump in the time line is very possible. So in terms of story, this will be a waiting game. However, for in game mechanics, you can be sure that there is a large area for speculation available. The drive system was an interesting and welcome addition into the franchise, but will this be kept in the next major installment to come? It has to fit into the context of the game, so I am not that sure if they will keep the exact same drive system. I personally speculate that they will some how incorporate the drive system into KH3, but will describe and present it in a different manner. This certainly is not a bad thing, since the drive system was an interesting thing, especially when you would turn into dark Sora. As for the difficulty of the game, that will and must get an upgrade. A major complaint of Kingdom Hearts 2 is that it became nothing more than a button masher. You could close your eyes and spam the attack button and come out unscathed in some parts of the game, which is pretty disappointing. If they raise the difficulty just a bit, they will most likely please a large portion of the fan base while pleasing the reviewers and critiques. Kingdom Hearts 2 The graphics will be greatly enhanced no doubt. The last major Kingdom Hearts game made its appearance on the PlayStation 2, last generation. With all the power that the PlayStation 3 has to offer now, Square Enix and Tetsuya Nomura will most certainly make great use of the power that this console offers. I am actually sure that a lot of the features that this game may have will be done simply because the console has the power to, which is a great thing. Also, if this becomes a PS3 exclusive, then the large amount of space offered by the Blu-Ray disc would be a great thing to take advantage of, and you would be given a large story line experience. There is some speculation about multiplayer capabilities being involved within Kingdom Hearts 3. To be honest, I am not sure how feasible this speculation is. For the simple fact that every game in the Kingdom Hearts franchise has stayed a single player campaign game to date, so while it is open to change, I can not really see it happening. There is not much room for a multiplayer mode in a KH game, simply because it is not a shooting game or war game where you can easily pose yourself against an enemy team. Some think that Square Enix may throw in a Heartless vs. Keyblade master (deathmatch) mode, or a survival mode, to allow for some multiplayer abilities. The deathmatch mode does sound a bit plausible, all you would have to do is offer multiple keyblade masters for the player to choose, and give a variety of heartless to choose for the others to choose. The only problem with this is that the fighting system in Kingdom Hearts 2, most likely to be adapted to Kingdom Hearts 3, does not really suit a multiplayer fighting game. So while it is possible that the inclusion of multiplayer will be there, it is highly doubtful. DLC is something that I, and I am sure many others, will look forward to with this game. Square Enix will most likely have great incentive towards providing downloadable content for this game, for the sheer popularity and positive reception of this upcoming game. So you may be able to look forward to add on chapters of the story line or even custom character skins and more.
