Kingdom Hearts hidden designs found in the Kingdom Hearts design document; Toy Story world design & Kingdom Hearts tentative title discovered

Jake

Recently there have been designs found that were never before seen from Kingdom Hearts that were hidden deep inside the Kingdom Hearts design document. With a look through the design document, it appears that Kingdom Hearts was once named Kingdom of Hearts.

Additionally, there is a picture of what looks like a Toy Story world and how it would look on the world selection map. It includes Andy's house on top of a Pizza Planet rocket. Also note that each character from the design document had a written bio describing each character and their roles in Kingdom Hearts.

The designs found in the document were never released to the public before. You can view all hidden designs and each character's written bio below with credit going to Nathan McMahon on photobucket for originally finding these images and KHInsider for the tip.

Sora:

The hero of this story. Sora is a fourteen-year-old boy who has his own personal issues like every other teenager does, but he always keeps a positive attitude towards everything.

Simple-minded at times, but his sense of justice is very strong.

"Sora" means "sky" in Japanese, representing his adventurous spirit.

Kairi:

The heroine of this story. Also aged 14.

A few years ago Kairi moved into the island where Sora and Riku live.

She may appear gentle and fragile, but inside she has a strong will that does not bend to any force.

Her name, "Kairi", bears the meaning of "sea", home of all life forms.

Riku:

Sora's best friend. He may seem a lot more collected and cooler than his same-age best friend, yet he remains expressive of his own thoughts.

Always curious towards the unknown, he begins to question the small, closed world in which he lives.

His name, "Riku" means "land" in Japanese.

Donald:

The court wizard.

With the order left by the king who disappears in the beginning of the story, Donald goes for an adventure searching for the hero. His vibrant character and quack-talk is sure to complicate things, adding even more fun to the story.

Goofy:

Captain of the royal cavalry.

Goofy, though a captain of his own troops dislikes battles and carries only a shield with him.

Goofy becomes Donald's partner in this journey, complimenting wacky Donald with his slow-talking, easy-going style.

Minnie Mouse:

King Mickey's queen.

As the queen she takes charge of the castle after Mickey's disappearance, appoints Goofy and Donald to search for the king in her place.

Daisy Duck:

A noble lady.

A sweet maid who fancies Donald, she collects her courage(?) to send him off to his mission.

Chip:

The mechanical engineer working for King Mickey.

The underground airship hanger is his working place as well as playing grounds.

It is Chip who designs the SS GummiBlock, allowing our heroes to reach other worlds.

Dale:

A mechanic working with Chip.

He maintains and, if necessary, primps up the SS GummiBlock which Donald and Goofy boards for the trip.

They were right... all along...

Check out picture #18! Sora originally had a costume change for Deep Jungle. That's kinda cool! He looks kinda like a young Tarzan with spiky hair in that drawing. It would have been funny seeing him in a loincloth.

From the looks of it, it seems that these designs were from when the game was nearing its final stages. Still, nice to see this blast from the past. Hollow Bastion seems to have looked much more creepy, and Sora nearly had a devil tail to go with his Halloween Town costume!

That's pretty sick although it's kinda scary because a Game Design Document looks like a pain to make and I might make those myself someday.

Also, it's super cool just seeing it before it came to life.

Yeah, seeing what could have been. But look at what we have now. A beautiful series already reaching the end of a saga that spanned seven games!

Wow! Sweet find! I just wish all the images were available in a larger format and resolution.

Also, Sora in a loincloth, lol! He's basically just a spiky teenaged Tarzan now that I see them together like that. xD

Also, how interesting that Alice was originally going to have her own Station of Awakening. And that Toystory world, WANT!

I really hope they give us more of these if there are any, and also supply us with a better quality too. <3

Sorry, but I don't think that was a Toy Story world. It looks more like an early Traverse Town design to me. The rocket doesn't even resemble the Pizza Planet one (the color schemes are completely different) and the house looks nothing like Andy's house. Plus there's the barn-like structure with an "M's" logo on it, which could easily have been what Merlin's house looked like back then. Basically, there's a lack of anything undeniably Toy Story-related, and considering the other world designs in the design document make it obvious what movies they came from, it leads me to believe that whatever the "Rocket World" is, it wasn't a scrapped Toy Story world. Again, my bets are on either Traverse Town or another world altogether.

Keep in mind that Disney didn't even buy Pixar until 2006 (about four years after Kingdom Hearts 1).

I feel stupid but I don't see anything here that looks like a Toy Story world? Loving the concept art though. Wish I owned this document myself! You can see so many big and subtle differences between this and the final version.

I want that Tarzan costume change  :

Is it just me, or is that armband red for Kairi?

It's not just you. Looks like her yellow band and bracelet were originally red. I think I personally prefer the yellow though...

Whoa! Interesting!

So, Kingdom Hearts was going to be called "Kingdom of Hearts". Hm.

I don't know if can be still annoyed at people calling Kingdom Hearts "Kingdom of Hearts" now. LOL

I know it annoyed the mess out of me, when my dad keeps calling Kingdom Hearts "Kingdom of Hearts".

I still keep imagining if there WAS a Toy Story world, Sora might a Play Arts Kai figure, and Donald and Goofy might be an action figure toy, you would find in a Disney World gift shop. Or heck, all 3 of them be Play Arts Kai figures.

Am I the only one who sees Als Toy Barn on one of the world icons, with a house above it, possibly resembling Andy's House?

We can in image #10-14 see Sora's old design. Looks like he had white/silver and black/brown hair, and his pants was orange.

Sorry to poop on the party but that's Traverse Town, not Toy Story. Read the table of Contents in the second image, it lists the worlds that are detailed, Toy Story is absent. Granted The Little Mermaid isn't listed either, but the full color images match up with what is listed. And it's grouped together with two original worlds, Disney Castle and Destiny Island, seemingly the first two worlds that we where supposed to visit, but where instead rendered as cutscenes moving Traverse Town from third to first. Perhaps that rocket was supposed to be Cid's Gummi shop? Regardless, there is no Toy Story in this image and whoever sees it only does so because of how badly they want it in the series.

I kinda wish the Alice Station had been put back in: without spoling the Kairi reveal, having 6 Stations foreach of the princesses, captured or not, would've been interesting.

So basically KHInsider needs to get their eyes checked,

How in the world is that Traverse Town? That looks nothing like Traverse Town... lmao. - Also it was confirmed by Nomura that there was intentions of adding a Toy Story world and there was designs, but didn't get finalized because of issues between Square and Pixar.
