As in, I don't think Equalists wants to merely rid the world of Benders. I think they want to rule everything and everyone.

Idk about the Equalists, but Amon might. He may be lying to the Equalists just to get what he wants. It's also possible that if Amon is the other side of the Avatar, that maybe he and Korra will somehow return to one being and have to take down Tarrlok, or an even greater threat.
