Honestly the biggest problem I've had with donald is him using the wrong elemental spells on enemies

Donald always heals me 0.25 seconds after I heal myself

Don has usually been pretty reliable for me tbh; though I never count on him to heal me. He's more useful for damage anyway.

In KH2 and KH3 you have the ability to get away and use an item or cure

In KH1, if you set his AI right Donald will heal you right
