I Feel Like Nomura Regrets Making Sora the Hero (DDD Spoilers)

Posted

Lately anyways. It seems like his goal with the general tone of the story has been to devalue Sora as much as possible, while playing up other characters like Lea and Riku

Take, for example, the fact that recent games dwell on the fact that Kingdom Key didn't choose Sora

Only it DID

It chose Sora over Riku at Hollow Bastion!

To me, this comes to the forefront in DDD, where Sora is portrayed as a failure in need of saving, but it wasn't so much DDD, but rather, that DDD had me thinking about previous games

It seem like recently, the plot is trying to undermine everything Sora does, in order to remind of how good, great, awesome, outstanding and amazing EVERYBODY else is

So I feel that maybe Nomura is starting to regret having chosen Sora, but now feels he's stuck with him.

I dunno, maybe it's just me

I think he just wanted in DDD to prove that Riku is at the good side, and give him opportunities for it.

Sora has failed at the MOM because of Xehanort,if he don't appear, both of them would be masters.

Nomura even said this game was Rikus redemption pretty much . As for Sora, the organization was trolling him so they could get him to fall to darkness and pull him deeper and deeper into sleep so he couldnt wake up.. It was all part of the plan :P

dont worry i used to feel that way when i beat DDD but now its like i think nomura is still giving sora that "break".

Sora is the "Key that Connects them all" so either if Nomura is stuck with him or not, to me, that don't matter because i love Sora the way he is and that doesn't change a single thing, even now.

y'know what...I started to get annoyed by the huge amount of frickin wielders in the series and how Nomura overfocused on the supporting cast more than the Main protagonist himself...........don't tell me...do not set there and tell me that having Terra Aqua Ven and Riku as the ones who'll defeat Xehanort is acceptable in any way.........they overhyped the role of the BBS cast so that they determine the fate of the entire series.........I like BBS but I hate Ven.......don't ask me why.....I just hate Ven...........

I appreciate having Riku as major Character again in KH3D but they overfocused on Terra Aqua Ven way........and I mean WAY...too much than they deserve........the fact that Aqua caused the entire KH1 KH2 & OrgXIII to happen by just saving Terra's body instead of falling with him into the realm of darkness and figure out a way to get rid of Xehanort from his body still baffles me................In KH3 they have to....and I mean THEY HAVE TO...but more importance on Sora's Role in the series.....he's the main protagonist ...the main hero...the KH series mascot....it will be completely stupid if they had Riku defeating Xehanort and saving everyone

If sora is not the main focus of KH3 I'm gonna boycott Square Enix for playing with my feelings and my Favorite series and character of all time

I'm not JUST talking about DDD guys

Most of the recent games have shades of this

The last game to really say Sora was his own awesome independent person was KH2, IMO

We'll know for sure if the first act in KH3 is Kairi dumping him for Riku.

you mean like KH2 with Roxas....I'm fine with that as long as it limited to the first three hours which would be the Tutorial......but I'll never accept that they'll have any important role than the main hero himself......it'll be stupid.......it's like having a zelda game where Link is not the main hero

Sora is the golden boy, and almost everyone likes Sora.

I like Sora confidence even though he can be over confident.

Riku is really insecure because of his darkness. I don't like his insecurity although he is getting better.

You guys are being silly. LOL. How many times has Nomura said that he wants Sora to be a "normal boy" so he can be a role model to the players? He's said before he wants the players to be like, "Wow. I'm nothing now, but if I really try... I might be able to accomplish great things like Sora." That's what Nomura's doing. Besides, the fact that Sora isn't a "true" Keyblade wielder, and has accomplished all that he has, makes him shine even brighter than the others.

Personally, I like this story telling approach. It's very much like what Jo Rowling did with Harry Potter. Harry wasn't really special at all; the circumstances around him were special, and were it not for his friends he would have been lost. As KH and HP show, true strength comes from the bonds you have with people that will help you weather any storm. As the key that connects everything and everyone THAT is why Sora's an amazing protagonist. He's the underdog and hero both.

And there's no way that Nomura's regretting having Sora as the protagonist. He himself has said he's his favorite character he's created (as he embodies everything he wants in a character). And why else would he have Sora as the hero in the next saga if he was regretting it in the current one? No. What Nomura's doing is keeping Sora from being overpowered, which I actually prefer. It makes things better that way. I know when I used to watch Sailor Moon, there was a point where there were so many Scouts... Well, no one would have realistically been able to threaten them (or so you'd think). I'm glad that Nomura's showing that Sora isn't like a God after everything he's done. Too many series do that these days. Anyway...

I didn't get that impression, but I do agree that it's KH2 that really brings Sora's worth to the front. Most of the other games in the franchise are side games that don't necessarily focus on Sora himself, but they all connect to Sora's importance somehow. BBS focused on Terra, Aqua, and Ventus, and how Sora is supposed to save them one day. 358/2 Days focused on Roxas, his Nobody, and how he had to rejoin Sora in the end so Sora can do all that awesome stuff in KH2. re:coded was a data scape, but still planted the seed for what Sora's role will one day be. DDD, like the others said, is more Riku's game and proving his redemption and worth as a keyblade master. Chances are, KH3 will bring Sora's badassary back to the forefront, but I never got the impression Sora was ever undermined. In fact, I think it's pretty clear Sora's the most important of them all, and not just by virtue of being the main character.

However, despite his importance, that doesn't mean the others aren't important or that Sora's invincible and can solve everything. The others have their own importance, and are what gives Sora the strengh to be, well, Sora.

mmm...kinda make sense since you've said it that way

Riku was always better i think

Sora is still needed:

He is the one who saves the others. And that is important. Without him there wouldn't be enough wiedlers around to beat Xehanort and his clone army of evil old and body stealing men.

I am more "scared" of that Sora will steal the show from the other people in 3.
