Although it will be called Kingdom Hearts 3, the game will actually be the 8th game in the series

Here is the order in which the games came out:

1.Kingdom Hearts (2002)

2.Chain of Memories (2004)

3.Kingdom Hearts 2 (2006)

4.Coded (2008)

5.358/2 days (2009)

6.Birth by Sleep (2010)

7.Dream Drop Distance (2012)

8.If no other title comes out, Kingdom Hearts 3

So why not just call it Kingdom Hearts 8?

I think everyone knows that this will be the 8th. doesnt mean it should be called KH8. it just wouldnt make sense. because some games happen before and after 1 and 2.

Because KH3 sounds better

Because not all of them progress the plot in time .. Some are taking place at the same time and overlap ( Days, CoM ), some are before the events of KH1 ( BBS) and some after KH2 ( Coded and DDD)

Nomura: Let's just save all the mind firetrucking and call it KH3

bcs Nomura wants to make numbered titles those that have direct connection to previous titles and these others like CoM,Days,BBS,Coded are considered spin-offs mostly

i just think that nomura doesnt want to be confused anymore. ( hes probably already so confused, he probabaly goes into the streets saying to people " OMG Sora and Riku" and then goes to them and forces them to call upon there keyblades) im sure namura is too confused as it is. :b

Well let's put it in chronological order

1: Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep

2: Kingdom Hearts

3: Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories*

4: Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days*

5: Kingdom Hearts 2

6: Kingdom Hearts Coded

7: Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance

8: Kingdom Hearts 3

 

*CoM and Days coincide with each other for a small period of time, then Sora's apparently asleep for a year, but it's actually a little less than one.

Pretty sure KH3, 4, 5, 6, 7 would have to come out first.

Plus if it was called Kingdom Hearts 8, it'd cause lot's of confusion. Not one title in the series has said Kingdom Hearts 3 yet.

I think since the other games were fillers/inbetween and prequels, it wouldn't make sense to call it Kingdom hearts 8.

But the more numbers made me think, KH3 (or the next title) is meant to be the end of Xehanort's tyranny. What's to say there won't be a KH4, 5, 6 ETC whatevers to fight some new evil?

Oh there will be a KH4 and so on. Just KH3 is the end of the Xehanort arc. Nomura's stated that before.
