Would you join your nation's military?

Posted

We were talking about this in my history class and I wonder what you guys think.

Personally, I'd only join if there was a likely hood of me being drafted. That way I won't get one month of training and be sent over seas as cannon fodder. I would get a decent amount of time for training and be able to reach a rank that isn't expendable and I'd be able to choose which branch to go into.

I refuse to go to war, Even if there was a draft.

Not because I'm a coward, I don't see why we need to fight over our problems where we can all come together and create a mutual understanding. Not fight using your own people as game pieces while the countries are the gameboard. what is this battleship

Sadly, as awful as war is, it is not preventable. Humans are cruel, terrible creatures, and war just happens. World peace is nice in theory, but it's practically impossible. And no world leader would want a world without war--it prevents gain.

nope

I wouldn't be the first to join the military, admittedly, but if my country needed me to I wouldn't hesitate.

I support troops but I don't want to be one

No, because for one, I don't trust the shots they vaccinate you with, and two, why would I die for a country that could give two firetrucks about me?

I almost joined and took the test, luckily I failed.

Military is a need of countries in case of war.

War is a product of rage and hatred.

I refuse myself to get involed in anything that involves hating.

I'd sooner create a mask and robe and hunt criminals irl than join the military.

It's not that I don't want to, it's that I'd sooner create my own peace, rather than the constant cycle of hatred and greed produced by war.

Didn't one man say "War's good for the economy?"

I have poor enough eyesight that I'm exempt from conscription, apparently

I'm empathetic enough to cringe everytime I visualize another person's severe injury. I don't think it's a job for me. Even if I could be less empathetic, I don't believe in the causes of war enough to risk my life for them.

I wish i can get stronger and join the military but it's not me.

I'm going to join military, but since in Finland we have draft so it really doesn't matter that do I want to. I'm also planning to attend on military's marching band.

okay that first part is so funny I'm just like dying

and just curious, why would you almost join if you're that opposed to it? That's like me hating math and then going for a math major?

do you mean when you took the test and failed, do you mean you failed the ASVAB?

I've already signed up for the U.S. army and I'm waiting to hear back from them. I talked to two sergeants the other day and they were so nice, and I'm not joining the front lines unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary and I put down I wanted to be a medic if that happened but I signed up for Laboratory Specialist. The army has several branches and it is not all about fighting really.

Good luck :) I hope it goes well.

That is like seriously awesome. The chances of you getting put on the front lines aren't high anyway, and the Army is still pretty sexist, so they'd never make you infantry or anything.

I'm spazzing because that's so cool. 8D And since you went through college, if you want, you can switch to the officer ranks. Higher pay.

Nah, not my thing. Respect to people who join but not for me.

And if there was a draft, I wouldn't be drafted either way because to my knowledge, men are the only ones who get drafted in the U.S. (I don't think they ever changed that), and legally, I'm a 'female'.

Correct me if I'm wrong however.

You don't have to worry about fighting. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that Women aren't permitted to serve in front-line combat roles. At least that's how it was 2 or 3 years ago, not sure if that has changed recently.

As of right now, enlisted women can't. Officers can apply for infantry school and if they pass are allowed to serve.

I was, but I'm not fit enough to join, and not only that I already have many family members in the army. I talked about it with my mom and she would be hysterical if I joined. :/ I do however, want to get military training that way I have the necessary skills to survive if a emergency happens. Personally, I'd rather just live my life and have a career as a concept artist.

lol NOPE!

Actually if you want just the military training without the commitment, some of the services do offer like week or month long training camps for civilians. Don't know much about them, but I'm sure you could sign up for one of those. (: You don't have to join the service or do anything dangerous, so I'm sure your mom would be okay with it.

I wouldn't join the military myself. I don't think I could handle it, I'm so sensitive. I can barely handle losing one person. Being in an environment where I would have to kill other people and could be killed would destroy me. I envy the people who have the inner strength to do that.

As much as I'm for protecting people and freedoms and such.... I just couldn't stand the idea that there's a chance I'll see someone get killed or will be in a situation where I had to fight someone seriously T_T I think I'll stick to my novels and sketch books
